There's no doubt about 1 thing though. If I close my eye, all I see in my head is a Subaru with an exhaust. I don't think it's necessarily the end of the world, but it's not in the same league in comparison to the howl of the boxer 6 On a positive note, Miami Blue is to die for.

Hopefully this is not the case, and I don't think it is because media does exaggerate. But it really does seem that Porsche is trying to distance the Cayman /Boxster further from the 911 more than I thought. It's all good... I will hold judgement when I go for a test drive anyway. |

Of course, that doesn't matter too much - what really matters is how it sounds under load. But my 981 isn't nearly that quiet...I am wondering if the 718 will be similar.

After 4k... you might as well just turn off the radio... at least on the boxster. Cayman might be slightly different. And by might, I mean I hope. I will report back when I've my overpriced audi cayman lol (9-planet love) |

I guess I am at odds about this. I have been debating choosing between the M2 and the new Cayman. With the mark up on the M2 most dealers are putting on it, it puts it in range of a mid range 718. The 718 it isn't as fast as the M2, but fast enough for me. However with all the 4 cylinder talk, I started looking at low mileage 2014/5 Cayman S which are $60k and below. Kinda torn right now.

Be advised; go for a low milage Cayman GTS, it is just 2 seconds slower than an M4 on the Nordschleife ! -340 HP -6 flat NA that screames all over the place -Standard PSE ! which makes things only better How I know ? Well I used to own one........and maybe I shouldn`t have turned that car in now that it is all 4 flat turbo. Good luck on choosing ! |

I found a very nice Cayman with PDK, but not sure if it's speedy enough for me. The 228i seems faster.

That is the torque fooling you....... Caymans are fast enough, IMHO a Cayman GTS is on par with an M2, on the Nordschleife the GTS is even faster. The sound of the NA 6 flat is unbeatable especially with PSE !! The way it breaths and revs, oh man, that is just brutal Comming to it, I do mis that car |

How heavy is the 718? I wouldn't mind the 4 cyl if it shaved 200 lbs off the weight; if it is actually heavier? ugh...

That's right, the old six cylinder is a hair lighter.

This is correct. The new 718 Cayman actually weighs more than the outgoing car. The difference varies by publication, I've seen anywhere from 10kg to 100kg to 100lb reported though....

The 996 GT3 sounds epic, awesome track car. I think Cayman would make a better daily driver.. guess it depends on what you are looking for. |

A base Cayman on the other hand will depreciate. Now, if you want newer tech, really nice interior, mid engine, then this is the car for you.

Really short, and doesn't show much, but I am sure we will be seeing more of these:

I have had my C.S. for 2 years, the driving experience is (and is going to be on the 718, I feel certain) HUGELY, massively different than any BMW. Having owned a 2008 Cayman S and driven a 2012 Cayman S (each quite different iterations of each other), I will also bet that the 718 is going to feel different enough in enough areas that the 4-cyl engine is only going to be but a modest part of the experience. This makes your decision harder Is waiting for a chance to drive a 718 an option for you? (And have you been able to get into an M2 at all? I can't even get near one... assuming you've at least taken a spin in a 235 to get a feel for the form factor?) If you don't like the experience of the car, no amount of power or speed will make up for it. I have loved my cayman. Even though the objective numbers aren't always there, it FEELS fast, even compared with M4's and Corvettes (though it is not of course actually as fast as them). My point is, these cars (M2=>718) don't resemble each other in any way from a butt-in-seat perspective, and I really think it's going to be more about putting your tail in the seat, your foot on the gas pedal, and then which one you lie awake thinking about . FWIW, I"m selling my 981 b/c I'm over it... I loved the 235's packaging when I drove it, size, and feel, so looking very much forward to getting access to an M2. ok, I'll shut up now... |
