Got quoted $1610 to install the Dinan suspension, at the dealership.

That seems a tad high. I've installed several coilovers on other cars myself, but none on a car this new (1500 miles) or this expensive (to me).

Anybody install the Dinan suspension themselves yet? Do I run into any warranty issues doing that?

See if you can find a Dinan authorized race shop in your area. I'd rather go there than the dealer, as they'll be able to give good feedback on ride height, corner balance, and alignment.

Install should be cheaper, as well.

I paid 500$ for a coilovers install. It wasn't Dinan, but it was Ohlins R&T with a GC Camber plates.

That place is overcharging

When I went to have coil overs installed locally I got two quotes and both were within $100 of each with an alignment.

they were $1200+ & $1300+

I installed them myself, was a great learning experience

First BMW dealer I called quoted me $2000.00 for the install!!!!

I am awaiting call backs from 4 other places to hopefully get a better quote, but this seems ridiculous.

My shop charged $850 in labor for Dinan suspension and camber plate install, $275 for ride height and corner balance adjustment, $175 for alignment.

You should be charged roughly for 3~4 hrs of labor. If a shop charges $125 an hr that would be about $500 which is a fair price. Location does matter, if you live somewhere where there aren't many places that could do the work they will charge you outrageous prices. I'd ask a dealership how many hours of labor it would cost to install suspension, if they say over 5 run.

Dinan quotes 9.5 hours and that's what the dealerships use

I've had multiple suspension installs over the years. Typically takes about 2~3hrs for the front and 1~2hrs for the rear, and that's them taking their time. No idea how they justify 9.5 hrs, that's hilarious.

Oh I agree. FWIW, The alignment is included in the 9.5 hours too.

Yeah that's the problem with these dealerships, they all use the 9.2 hour figure for install. The best quote I have received so far from callbacks is $1250 for the install. Still seems high, but I am running out of Dinan installers in my area to call.

Why does it need to be a Dinan installer? Is that the only way they'll cover it under warranty? If not you could just find an indy shop that would do it for much less. Just make sure you find a reputable one.

I was under the impression that the warranty support they provide was void if installation was done outside of their network, but upon further reading on the Warranty page of the Dinan website, I can't find anything that says that.

I will call them tomorrow to confirm. If it doesn't void the warranty than I will start a new round of calls to other local shops like you suggested. Thanks for mentioning this.

Did you get quotes for the Dinan front ball joints, rear links and/or sway bars?
