M2 prices taking a hit

Guys I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it seems like the prices are gonna take a big hit. I just got notice that all M2's (in Canada at least) can be leased by an employee of BMW for roughly $600cad a month.

I've been in line for an M2 variant for quite a while (first at my dealer), and I have been looking to get an M2 to satisfy the itch in the meantime. Now I'm seriously contemplating if I should go forward with my Competition or CS allocation when it comes.

I know I'm going to stir some pots here but I'm trying to gauge how you guys in the US are seeing this situation. My feeling is that M2 production has ramped up but no one wants these cars. I know a lot of pre lci M2 orders have been dropped for the lci but I don't know if people actually stuck around for the LCI.

An employee friend of mine leased a new 2017 M2 for roughly $965cad (employee pricing) about 5 months ago and with it being about $600 now, that's a worrying trend that I think the M2 is facing. Thoughts?

I’m not sure what the employee pricing is for a M2 lease, but when I get my 2018 M2 serviced I see half a dozen brand new M3/4’s for sale, and not a single M2 on the lot. Also I’ve been told the employee lease for a M3 is $6XX in the US.

A trend? One questionable story with odd details seems like a real stretch as a trend. Still not many m2s around. Maybe Canada ordered extra m2s for its bmw employess and dropped the price by 300 per month.

I don't give a flying fuck!

The vanilla M2 is an amazing car and it has been praised everywhere. To me, it is already a classic and its value won't dive as much as some people seem to think. There will always be a market for such amazing sounding and balanced car.

My 2 cents.

Why are you gauging off of what the employees pay? I feel like regardless it will be $300 less on a leased car that costs around $1,000 for most BMW employees anyways. But, probably not for long if BMW decides to change their financing to be similar to Audi and Mercedes.

What a ridiculous assumption for gauging the value of a car...

Thing is, as much as the M2 does not offer the complete luxury package... Try finding an alternative to it. Closest alternative is a 4 door hatchback that looks like a KIA

Price's may dip when supply meets demand but in the long-run it won't tumble

The CS version is more of a limited edition variant, it probably will appreciate with time too

Even if everything you've been told is accurate, I don't know that it can be extrapolated and applied to the US market in any way. We've already had other forum members in Canada comment previously on M2 availability at certain large dealerships (in Vancouver, if memory serves?), so it's been suspected that the supply situation there may be quite different from just about everywhere in the USA. This wouldn't shock me - Canada is facing some economic headwinds and they already expect GDP to be cut in half year over year. You guys have some issues there, so you may get finance incentives to clear inventory that have zero bearing on anything here. Your info may be completely accurate for your market, but it may also be a very isolated situation. And you're not even talking about incentives for someone walking in off the street - you're talking about incentives for employees only. As data points go, that's pretty thin...

Oh Sh*t! I cashed out my 401K to buy my M2. I'm treating as an investment. I expected to get at least double my money back. No what? I'm screwed!

No, wait a minute, that's not right. I bought it because I love it and I don't give a F if it's worth $50,000 next year or $50. I'm gonna drive the wheels off this beauty for at least 5 or 6 years. Then we'll see what happens. No way to predict what the value will be that far down to road and I'm not about to lose sleep over it.

These convo’s are plain silly... Asia pays $100k for an m2, us$ depreciation would require price hikes. Etc etc

That said I’m with ORIGIN M. ... I don’t really care, I drive one. It’s not an investment. Just for me to enjoy here and now.

If you're buying a car as an investment, you're doing it wrong.

planned obsolence plays a huge role in this, i don't think lease discounts correlate to future value.I don't want M340is having the same power as me on the straights in a year or so

That being said, this is an amazing car but im def following my 5 year M plan and upgrading to a LCI G series M3 if it pans out to be as good as it seems on the whitepaper.
Cant wait to see it doing laps later this year .

This car poops on F series M3/4 though. its not even close IMO

If the G80 comes with 500 HP, M xDrive (all indications say that its a fantastic system), and hovers around the 3600 lb mark, it will indeed be a great, albeit large, performance sedan that once again sets the bar in that ultra-competitive segment.

Edit: RWD only....traction will remain problematic for most drivers.

yea im very excited about the prospect of those numbers. yes it will be a bigger car, but i will be older (im 29 now) and will start gravitating toward SOME comfort aspects that the M2 doesnt provide.

Im seeing 480 base and 500 on the comp which would be insane. a measly 8 years later and a m3 will have more power/torque than the E60 M5 lol

edit- and if it doesnt shake out there is always the option to just mod the M2 and enjoy!

How on earth can an employee leasing benefit in anyway affect the m2 pricing to general public . Had the residual on the cars all of sudden plumetted? If so then all those leasing now when returning to BMW...bmw will take the hit.

G80 is in the 500 range.

If you guys on the m2 platform are going to be driving a 400-500 hp 3000 lb rwd car. Please be safe. That’s over kill for this car this weight...and pretty close to dangerous for a lot of people. It’s not a spreadsheet

NKC, "who cares?"

I am eagerly waiting for my MG 6MT as she's on the water, should be in my hands before end of Feb, then I can park the IS-F and have some fun after 1st 1,200. Will probably still keep the auto for the SoCal traffic though.

Don't sweat it, cars are NOT investments.

I'm at about 450 bhp and everything is copacetic as long as I modulate the throttle. BTW, I wish the car was 3000 lbs.
