I got my Thule fit kit for the M2 today (and Q7) so I could use my 20 year old cross bars. It fits great on the Q.....the kit is nice. I did not fit it to the M2 but you have to first tap the bolt holes on the room mount and them apply some bolts. It's a very secure method of putting a rack on a car.

For those who have Thule bike carrier on roof and the genuine BMW roof bars, how have you attached the Thule carrier to the bars ? Did you have to cut the rubber strip on the bars?

Yes, the rubber strips are meant to be cut around the attachments. They really only provide a more completed look (and perhaps a little less whistle/wind noise)

How's everyone's wind noise? I've installed the OEM roof rack without any bike racks yet and the noise starts at 30mph and is unacceptable at 50. My previous car rx8 had a yakima rack with fairing with no wind noise at all.

'18 LBB M2 with Thule Aeroblade roof racks, Pro Ride bike carriers and BMX Bike on top. I don't have an airscreen on and the noise isn't really noticeable until about 80-90mph with the windows cracked.

I have a 2 series rack. When I travel alone I put the bike in the trunk with the back seats down. When my wife comes along, I use the rack. Easy install in about five minutes. You just screw in four bolts.
We both have road bikes and do drive to bike tours. The rack from my M235i fits and that is what we are using. My 1 series rack did not fit the M235i. |

For anyone trying out the seasucker rack, just tested it out tonight at 60mph and a few semi-hard turns, it's good. The main thing I would recommend is mounting the bike in reverse with the front suctions on the rear window given the lack of rigidity on the roof.

Our MTB car was stolen over the weekend so may have to use the M2 for a few MTB trips until we get a new car.

sorry about your stolen car; don't overlook the hitch option too! there's a thread on the 2 series forum for the curt hitch.
i've done it myself and the install is not bad at all. no concerns whatsoever of my paint.

Not sure why people just don’t use the BMW OEM bike rack. Fits great and works with zero problems. I have been using one for more years than I want to admit to.

Personally, I prefer a rack that can be used on more than one vehicle, as well as one that can be easily removed. The Seasucker attaches and detaches in seconds with no tools required. Bike racks cause a ton of drag and leaving them on a daily driver causes a bunch of wind noise and significantly decreased fuel economy.

I've always been intrigued by those Seasucker racks. They look so convenient but I would always be nervous about them coming off if a suction cup failed. Has anyone seen this happen? Not a random Amazon review but actually seen this happen in person? Just curious.
Here's my rack solution. It not only improves the fuel mileage but allows me to not give a shit about bad roads when biking, skiing, and boarding. |
