AWRON for LCI
Given that the dash was redesigned for the LCI, I'm assuming there needs to be an LCI version of the AWRON display?? Anyone have one in their LCI? Pics, video of install??

I don't believe the AC vents were in any way modified, so you should be good to go.

It was my understanding that the gauge comes complete with the vents attached...and it doesn't look like it is the same to me from pre-LCI to LCI...
Anyone with an LCI able to confirm?? |

From what I can find on RealOEM, the vents themselves are still the same p/n, even though the dash surrounding it is different. I don't have a pre-LCI car to compare with other than photos though.
I want to know if it's possible to move the gauge from the left to the right vent. I'd rather not lose one of the 2 vents that point at me, since I'm guessing that 75% of the time I don't have a passenger...

Yeah this is my concern (the vent bezel). On the vendors website, seems when you order the gauge it comes complete with the second vent (pssgr side) and the bezel/surround. I'm opposite of you, I prefer that the vent omitted be the one pointing at me as I dislike A/C or heat blowing directly on me (find it dries out my eyes), but perhaps you can special order from the vendor directly?

Here's a question for you that I am finding trouble getting a straight answer to: From what I have read, it seems that the AWRON and JB4 don't play nice together as they seem to compete with one another using the CANBUS. Is this to be expected with other types of "plug-in" tunes? Specifically I am looking at the Dinatronics tune. Just wondering if I am able to run both? Challenge extended. P.S. I was able to confirm the AWRON directly that they do in fact offer the LCI version. |

I would also have opted it on the right vent, but it isn't configurable (at least, it didn't seem that way). But the airflow from the right vent pointed towards the driver is fine, no real difference to me. |

I'm pretty sure that if you ask when ordering, Awron can sell it to you with the gauge in the other spot. I asked them about this quite a while back and they said it's possible but "affects readability of the gauge". (Not quite sure why it would change that much from being moved over 4-6 inches, unless the AMOLED display they use is really bad off-axis?)

Reviving this thread as I have not bee able to find the answer...
Is there anyone out there that can confirm that the exhaust flap control unit (add on for the AWRON gauge) WILL WORK with the MPE? I am curious barbecue the MPE controller is Bluetooth and from what I can tell the AWRON is hardwired into the car. Anyone have both AWRON and MPE? |

The MPE is controlled by the bluetooth thingy. AFAIK, the electronic box you install basically has an error-deleter built in, so it lies to the car about the state of the valve (preventing it from throwing codes or warnings about the stock valve not working).
Then, you just control the valves open or closed via the bluetooth remote. The AWRON setup basically gives you the same exhaust flapper control, but with the stock single flapper system. This also has the benefit of being able to leave it in "Stock mode" where the car opens and closes the flap as BMW intended. So basically, if you have the MPE, I don't think you need the AWRON exhaust valve control option (as far as I'm aware it's not a separate unit, it's just a software option that they enable in the gauge). However, if you want their "Delete R" function (hides the CEL from running a catless downpipe, without needing a tune), I think that is part of the package along with the EVC, so you have to take them as a group. I've been having a hard time finding a US vendor with the best pricing too. I've looked at several and there is a fair amount of variation in price... I still have yet to visually see proof that Awron has a proper version for the LCI, too. eas has a thread going in the Vendor Classifieds section and they posted what they claimed was the LCI version... but it isn't.

Zprime, you are correct about the MPE as I have confirmed directly with AWRON in Germany. They said that if you have MPE, you don't need the flap control unit, and to just buy the "base" version of the gauge. They also confirmed that while they do not show the LCI version on their website, they do in fact sell the LCI version. They basically just buy the part from BMW and insert the gauge into it. As far as pricing, I was able to get a small discount if I buy from them directly. The unfortunate part is that I have to pay them in Euros, and I am coming from crap Canadian dollars...so I was thinking of waiting a bit to see if the FX would improve a bit before pulling the trigger.

I actually just paid Awron directly on Wednesday night for mine. I have the "RHD version" coming since I want the gauge on the right side.
They charged more shipping than their website claims (€65 instead of €40) and also had a mystery "international charge" of 20€... but they knocked the price down a bit from "list" on the gauge itself. I wanted the EVC version and they "only" charged €839.50 instead of the normal €999. I paid with paypal and have a credit card that doesn't charge a fee for international currency, so I used that; Paypal allows you to choose whether Paypal itself handles the currency conversion (which they then mark up and profit from, but allows you to avoid card fees so could still be cheaper), or if you want to allow the CC company to handle the conversion. Since my card is fee-free, that saved me $30-40. I'll definitely take pics of mine once it arrives.

Heh, I forget that BMW people are apparently not normally DIYers... I will definitely put it in myself. Should give me a good preview of how to get dash bits apart so I can then tear it all apart 3-5 weeks later when the radar system I want is finally available.
I wish BMW had factory service manuals available as PDFs like Audi did. Something that shows where all the fasteners and clips are so you know where to pry is very helpful...

"BMW people", lol I can't speak for others, but I wasn't always a BMW person...started out with what I could afford, which means I have owned a number of Hondas/Subarus in my days. I used to do all the work like this myself (stereos, gauge pods, etc.), anything that could be done in the driveway with a screwdriver, some wire snips and a roll of electrical tape! Nowadays, I just don't have the time to mess around for 6 hours on something that a pro can do in 3. Plus..mistakes are a lot more costly on these cars
Be sure to post some pics of your install once completed. I'm interested to see how the gauge looks from the other side. GL with install. Last edited by F87_LCI; 03-23-2018 at 04:47 PM.. |
