In his defense, Robin specified that the M2 steers/turns in better than the E92 M3. I've never driven an E9x M3 (they do sound glorious). Have either of you?

I own an M3 and taking delivery of M2 in May. I've driven the M2 several times and it's brilliant. The M3 has a specialness that the M2 seems to lack, despite its fantastic performance IMO of course.

I disagree. I've just switched from an E92 M3, and the M2 feels more special. The way it turns and grips is pretty outstanding and you don't see another one on the road, whereas you see plenty of E92s.

This. But if you don't drive a car like you should and only debate on forums about M2 not being an M car /not special enough, you never get it

HANW!

I respect your right to disagree which is why I qualified my earlier remark with IMO. To me the E92 is a very special car replete with beautiful hydraulic steering, a wonderful chassis, and a legendary bespoke screaming naturally aspirated V8. I'm not sure what aspects of the M2 you think rival or surpass these elements? Maybe some confirmation bias is at play here.

Incidentally approximately 15,000 E92's made it to North America over six model years. That's not a big number. We don't have precise Canadian numbers however estimating 25% that implies 3750 cars made it to Canada. With our geography and major cities spread out as they are it makes the number even smaller. Maybe 1800 cars to the Greater Toronto area over six years. It's minute in a populous of 6 million and they are rarely seen. My car being a 1 of 22 in NA Santorini Blue makes it pretty damn special.

Looking forward to delivery of my brilliant M2 in May to be used as my year round daily driver, however it will never be as special as my M3. To ME.

The steering in the M2 is great, and the E92 steering really isn't all that. Yes, it's hydraulic, but meh, the M2 steering is bloody good. In addition, the chassis is great in the E92, but it still rolls more than the M2, the entire car is much heavier (and a little under braked) and you cannot deny the M2's solid mount rear subframe.

The V8 is/was amazing, but only when you're on it hard, which I loved with my Exhaust mod, but torque is addictive and immediate in the M2.

It's not confirmation bias, that's just your suggestion. It's my honest opinion after owning three iconic M car generations. You have all the rights to disagree, but in fairness, you don't have an M2 yet to compare, I do.

And you know what? In front of me German carmag Sportauto Issue 2/2017.
A test between 718 Cayman, Audi TTS and M240i with the marvellous B58(so they say)

Conclusion. Pricewise and MPG wise the M240i wins. But it's way too fat(1578kg) vs M2 and the rest. 718 wins overall.

It did a 1:15.00 at Hockenheim Short.
M2 1:12.2 as I recall.

Left is TTS, middle M240i, right 718:

And take a look at this score: M2: 78 points. Still number 1 (after 2seater Cayman*deep bow to Porsche*) And we're talking serous sh1t here: Sportauto Carmag...

Anyway enjoy your M2, the REAL M car!

Cheers
Robin
I'm loving the M2 the more I drive this car.

It's a real driver's car and man, the torque from down low, e.g. driving in fourth gear at 60km/h putting down the pedal and getting the surge from the 3L Turbo is just amazing. Brilliant engine!

Regarding the new B58, man this engine has a superb MPG! No Downsizing and it destroys the 2L 4-pot Porsche engine in real life! Minimum gas mileage 8,1L for the BMW and 11,9L for the Porsche?! WTF?! There you can see the benefits of Downsizing...

And the Bimmer is almost 130kg heavier. Bavarian Motor Werks at it's best.
