As much as I like the new Hexagon shape, I could do without the moving adaptive headlights -- just a more expensive part I'll have to replace in the future, compared to a non-moving lamp. Torn and semi-agonizing over this, but I shouldn't be. Just gotta get financing, ED date and PCD confirmed instead of worrying about my lights! Lol.

I woulnd't sweat it. I could care less if my car has it or not (although its always cool getting something extra for free). I remember when the LCI was first announced it was pretty split on if people liked the hexagons or the old shape. |

The feature allows the driver to keep the high beams on all the time. When a car approaches, the feature splits the projected light beam,so that the car approaching doesn't get hit by the bright high beams. |

I'm curious though Nantucket - I thought there was physical hardware missing from US spec headlights that was required (in addition to coding)? That was my understanding 4 or 5 years ago - perhaps the hardware is now standardized? (I know - RTF<F80 forum>). |

How can that work in the M2 if you don't also have the 5AC High Beams that have to be turned on by the second switch on the end of the turn signal stalk? In the U.S., you'd need the Executive Package to get those features.

Yep,if you don't have option 5AC,which is automatic high beams, then the anti dazzle won't work with coding. You need that option for it to work.

I'm also curious if anyone with an LCI with Executive Package has got this to work. Mine is expected in just over a month, and I'd love to get this feature working. Maybe I should start a thread in the relevant sub-forum...

The anti-dazzle feature, I understood at the time, required the camera in the mirror which is part of the exec pack on M2s. So for people who have that camera, I think anti-dazzle can be enabled by coding. FWIW, this seems to be a similar concept to automatic high beams, which relies on that camera to know when to dip the beams. |

LED units might be more clever, in that it's not a single LED that creates the light shape, rather an array, and some of the LEDs could be switched off or turned down to achieve the same result. This however is a bit of guesswork, and it might not be possible for other reasons.

Asking because some "adaptive" LED headlights actually don't, they just light up additional chips on an array and that plus the shape of the reflector causes the beam to "move." Trying to figure out if these new LEDs still physically swivel like the old Xenons do (they had to, since there's only a single point source of light focused with a lens there), or if they are using the multiple-chip setup (which would be more logical since less moving parts = less complex to build).

New build just put in Adaptive LED headlights N/C. Their must be something that we are missing for them to be listed alone on non exec cars but being listed as part of the exec pkg on the other builds
Think us that paid for the exec pkg for the lights can get a partial refund? Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 09-20-2017 at 07:10 PM.. |

Hey - Maybe the 552s are already built into the price increase for '18, and the other guys should be paying even more for the Executive Package.
Come to think of it, we've only had one non-Executive Package car reported (LBB delivered to Chicago) that supposedly didn't have the 552s - but we really don't know for sure because no one saw the window sticker on that car. Maybe all '18 M2s get the 552s and we just don't know it because so few have been delivered until now. Today two new orders for non-EP cars were reported, and the paperwork showed 552s on both. |
