They told me these were designed by Eibach in Europe but that what they do is shock dyno everything and once they have OEM specs they then target 20% more stiffness.

Spring rates of my BMW M3 E46 Eibach were disclosed at that time and they were less than 10% stiffer. Given the shorter Eibach springs and similar max. resistance of springs till bumpstops come into play, springs have to be slightly stiffer. Eibach was always good in optimizing this to avoid unnecessary stiffness.

I always liked that they remain with a close to OEM ride but just with the drop.
Had an Acura TL with them and it remained pretty smooth ride but lowered. With the M2 I wanted to keep the OEM ride and characteristics and so far this set has achieved that

So the stiffness is almost the same feeling as OEM?

I am running my Eibach ProKit on my M3 E46 for 12 years now and my dampers are still fine after 127000 km (about 80000 miles). Ride is not noteworthy harsher but you feel more connected with the car / with the road and less "floating". Road holding is def. more reliable due to a tad less body rolling / movement. I only once reached (from my feeling) bumstops on a road with a severe depression which was reconstructed afterwards. So no limitations in this regard.

I'll see if I can't find some time to swap the Eibach springs in this weekend. I got lots of practice installing my H&R ones... |

http://www.h-r.com/bin/28802.pdf Certificate for Eibach is: http://www.dvsegmbh.info/PDF/einbau/...E102003109.PDF Both certificates are not easy to read as they include also lowering springs for M3 and M4. Interesting point: Quite different spring characteristics (based on nr of turns / diameters / progressiveness). Last edited by mmmpassion; 11-05-2016 at 08:29 AM.. |

Just finished swapping my H&R for Eibach springs this afternoon. I've only had time to drive around the block and so far they feel pretty similar to the H&R. I'll report back after I get a few more miles on them...
Meanwhile here are a few comparison pictures of H&R vs Eibach vs stock: Last edited by MechEE; 11-07-2016 at 12:21 AM.. |

so if the rear drop is the same the H&R's are definitely stiffer with the rear spring looking slightly shorter. Same thing with the fronts... except even more true with the Eibach's actually having more of a front drop. Also not sure if it matters but the H&R's might provide more front internal tire clearance since they are "narrower".
Excited to hear the true comparison MechEE

Eibachs are definately softer than the H&R from the photos, especially in the rear. Spring rate is determined by wire diameter, coil diameter and number of coils (and the modulus of elasticity of the steel, but that should be the same between them). From the pics, the HR rears (I assume the smaller springs are the rears) are definately stiffer as the wire diameter and coil diameter looks about the same, but the Eibach has more coils thus softer. In the front, its harder to tell but the Eibachs have bigger diameter coils thus should be softer than the H&R. I had H&R super sports on my Jetta GLI and Bug Turbo, and they bottom pretty hard on the Bug with stock shocks (but not on the Jetta). Wonder if they really need firmer shocks on the M2 also? Based on what is shown, the H&R should be both a bit stiffer and "edgier" handling in the rear compared to the Eibachs. With a scale, a press and a ruler, you could check the spring rate so we'd all know for sure what we'd get I'd lean towards the H&R as they are firmer, but am a big Eibach spring fan and run those on my race cars (linear 8" x 2.5" of course)

Well I fitted my eibachs today, went for a drive and it feels almost the same as stock. The drop is perfect and I could get over the speed bumps in my estate with no rubbing. I did notice that there was a different feel to the steering but that won't truly become apparent until I go for a real drive. Overall, I'm really happy
