So the valving of the shocks and struts are the same/identical to the M3/M4?

Quality wise there is no comparison to the Ohlins. Reliability would have to go the Ohlins as well. Performance on the track will likely go to the AST5100 as it is more or a track system with custom valving available at the time of purchase.

For those concerned about wheel/tire clearance, we have Swift springs that are 1" shorter in length in the most popular rates to give you the clearance you are after.
The standard 8" front spring can cause clearance issues with very wide wheels/tires or certain offsets. |

Ohlins
So I had Ohlins installed last week. In a word they are awesome. My impression was that the OEM suspension was amazing on smooth road surfaces but too bouncy on the back roads I like to drive. Meanwhile I wanted some adjustability so my wife would actually get in my car and go for a drive out to the coast with me. With this in mind I had my spring rates changed to 80N/mm front and 160N/mm rear. My review 1 week in is they are a definite step up from the OEM and whether they are set at 15 clicks which gives them a level of firmness similar to OEM but less bounce resulting in a more planted feel. At 5 clicks the suspension is much firmer than OEM, which translated into a very quick responsive feel and the front end stays flatter as you shift through a series of s turns. As I drive my M2 only on weekends around town and often a back road run I am planning on running it at 8-10 clicks most of the time and then back it down to 15 when my wife is up for a road trip.
I am hoping to install some Ferodo DS2500 pads and get it on the track in a month or two, so I will report back after a track day.

Second this. Seriously considering Ohlins over M Perf. for the same uses as you - mostly spirited driving, some road trips up PCH and an occasional track day. Really need something livable, as northern California roads can be pretty rough.

This is encouraging...my set of Ohlins CO are in a box waiting for my car to arrive. Been waiting over a year for the car and I swear now that I know the car is in the country (currently at Port getting MPE installed)...these last weeks are torture!! What size wheels are you running? Did you/will you install any camber plates? Pics?? |

I am running the stock wheels and tires; no camber plates. My strategy was that if I was not happy I would add camber plates and go up to the 90N/mm front and 170-180N/mm rear.
I am still getting some miles on this set up so I should probably do a follow up comment in a week or two but so far I would say I am happy with the 80N/mm and 160N/mm rear set up. Not sure the 80 vs 90 is a big deal so a reasonable option would be what Jake at Ohlins recommended which was leave the fronts at 90N/mm and go for a 160-170N/mm range in the back. I will get it out of the garage and put some varied miles on this weekend! But so far I'm loving it and at 5 clicks it is plenty stiff for my race mood and 8-10 clicks will likely be my regular setting. I gotta say I had no idea it would be so easy to adjust....it takes approx 2 minutes and the biggest challenge is getting the dirt of your shirt before getting back into the car!!!!

We still give away a free set of springs at the rate of your choice with your Ohlins R&T order.

Boy was i wrong compared to stock ride. After corner balance i shaved 2 seconds off my PB at local track. On the street the ride is noticeably less harsh. Noticed some tire rub marks with 265/35r19 tires up front after track day. But no marks on tire. Best mod i have done |
