@m2ruder's delivery & protection
So after a very unheard of short wait from committal time to PCD, my wait was a unbelivable two months. Have to thank Chad @ BMW of Columbia for finding a allocation that was due to drop into production at anytime. Since the wife was unable to go with me to the PCD I wanted someone who would be as excited as I was so....
I invited my friend and detailer Nick Parks to enjoy her spot. Now of course he was scheduled to do the prep work on it so that was even better and the car would feel like his own. He got this wild idea to cut down on his prep work and trailer the car back to his shop so it would get no road grime or damage in transit. So we borrowed an enclosed trailer & truck from our friend John Ces, owner of CES Motorsport. John was excited to be a part of the process from delivery to customer. This turned out to be a great idea since the weather was to be less then ideal. It was cold & rainy but we had a blast......I think Nick enjoyed it more than I at times but it was a great experience all around. Coming from my F82 to the F87 I was overall impressed with the car, it has some downsides where the F82 shines but overall this package best suits what I want to do with it and the handling it out of this world. Once back in Charlotte the car was left in Nicks hands to perform his art........ not only did he do more than we discussed, worked endless hours to perfect it but it received the newly updated MOHs+ coating formula....the first car stateside to have it applied! All i can say is he nailed it Below I will post his detailed blog write up for peoples questions......since I am not the most savvy in all the coating and covering tech this will help fill in when I am lagging. Sorry for the length. I just took his advice and let him go. Now it is fully protected for the future mods and fun I am about to embark on pics are a combo of ones i took and I snatched a few of the process from him http://parksdetailingofcharlotte.com http://www.cesmotorsport.com https://bmwperformancecenter.com/delivery https://www.suntekfilms.com/Default.aspx http://gyeonquartz.com Nick Parks: We began this project by picking up the vehicle at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC and transporting it back to our facility via enclosed trailer with only a mere 11 miles on the odometer. With this M2 we put together a package to protect the entire exterior of the vehicle using Paint Protection Film (Clear bra) and Quartz Coatings. The paint protection film gives the vehicle protection against rock chips, swirls, and wash scratches. While the Quartz coatings gives the vehicle long term gloss, easy wash maintenance, and UV protection. First we begin with washing the vehicle, this is the decontamination process. We foam the vehicle down, wash the vehicle, followed by a wash with Q2 Iron, relieving the paintwork of any iron particles. Followed by one more wash. We then use steam to remove any factory clear bra, as they usually don’t age well and begin yellowing. The following step is to evaluate the paint, and begin the machine polishing to remove any scratch defects, and to bring out the vehicles gloss. This particular vehicle with only 11 miles, required stage one machine polishing service to prep the surface and enhance gloss. Once the paint has been brought to our standards, we begin the paint protection film install. We speak with each owner to discuss their plans for their vehicle. Often times the vehicle is a daily driver, show car, or a track car. We can make a package regardless of their goals. We went with our SunTek Ultra driver’s package (Full hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, A pillars, rocker panels) and we added on a luggage strip, rear bumper strips. Each piece is custom wrapped and machine cut with our Graphtec Plotter. As many possible edges are wrapped, any badges or reflectors are removed for a seamless install, making the film even more difficult to spot. For this particular vehicle, we bulk wrapped the hood to eliminate a few relief cuts, making the hood even more visually pleasing. We also installed a few aftermarket pieces on this BMW M2, all of the factory reflectors were removed, and replaced with paint matched front reflectors, and honeycomb rear reflectors. Other pieces included gloss black kidney grills, and black fender vents. Next we begin by wiping down the entire vehicle with Gyeon Prep to remove any polishing oils left to give the paint surface a perfect bonding layer for the quartz coating. Our final step is the Quartz Coatings, for this specific vehicle we applied the new updated Gyeon MOHs+ over the paint protection film and exposed paintwork. This coating will give the vehicle protection for five years with proper maintenance. We begin by applying one layer of Q2 Base followed by a layer of phobic to make Gyeon MOHs+. Lastly, we coated the wheels with Gyeon RIM, and the glass with Gyeon VIEW. The wheels are safely removed, prepped, coated, then properly re-installed and torqued to the factory rating. Thanks guys
I tried to do this one right before it got damaged like the last 3. Nick Parks really worked with me and helped push me towards the larger PF package..... no one would be disappointed. His work is the most invisible I have seen on the multi-complicated M2 lines. I mean look at our front bumper |
