Official PCD Thread

I'm starting this thread as a place to come and either learn about taking Performance Center Delivery or somewhere to go to see if others share the same date and most importantly, a support area for the dreaded wait to experience one of the best ways to take delivery of your car!

For those brand new to PCD, here is a link that provides some background:
http://blog.leithbmw.com/what-is-the...ivery-program/

Here is link about what to expect, the experience, and places to check out after you take delivery:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/attac...4&d=1315957195

Here is a quick video of an individuals experience taking an M3 around the track. Disclaimer: I take no credit for this video...

Most importantly, look forward to the experience! It truly is an amazing opportunity at no additional cost to you! But, understand it can delay the delivery of your new car 2-4 weeks.

My PCD is April 12th -

That off road portion looks as exciting as floating down a lazy river in a tube.

Is it up to the dealer to participate in PCD? I am dealing with a money grabber that won't do ED. I did not ask them about PCD. Is there a reason for them not to do PCD? Does it take $$$ from them?

Doesn't cost the dealer anything.

They just have to talk to the Performance Center and submit some easy paperwork, probably like 30 minutes of their time. The only thing I can think of that they probably don't like is if you are not local to the selling dealer and have to do all the paperwork via mail. The dealer doesn't get the chance to do their normal tricks when you get into the finance office and try to get you to add on extras like extended service plans, wheel/tire protection packages, etc. and the buyer won't be coming to your dealer for service. No different than selling a car to someone out of state that then has it shipped to them (other than we don't have to pay for extra shipping for PCD).

No paperwork for PCD, all done on the computer--took less than 5 minutes to submit PCD request

I think the worst part of that is knowing it's the last function of the day and all you want to do is get your car and GO! Personally, I don't plan on traversing the Serengeti in a BMW SUV (of any other for that matter), so it's not critical to my PCD experience...

If you've never been off-roading it will be an awesome experience. My best friend is really into jeeps and we will go out sometimes with his group. It's a completely different mindset with its own unique challenges. It's much slower and calculated but there's still plenty to relate to since you are also pushing the limits of what the vehicle can do. You will be surprised how much fun can be had going that slow!

Completely agree with El Ban. PCD will make you appreciate both the car you ordered and BMW as a brand. Most of us only get to experience a dealership, it was great to interact with corporate employees.

By far the best part is experiencing the car in the exercises they put you through. The car performed beyond what I expected. And I can't imagine what the M schools are like.

PCD staff was awesome too. They are well versed and the and make you feel special. Top notch customer service.

If you are able, I would definitely recommend doing it. They even let me use the delivery bay to put my tracwrap on.

I've thought about it. I've had some friends do it and they loved it. My dealer is familiar with the program and warned me that it could add a week to 4 weeks to my delivery time. A week I may be able to handle but 4 weeks? That would drive me nuts after what will already be a long wait.

Reason 2 is that I want to get the bumper wrapped and the local xpel guy is literally 10 miles from the dealership. He's about 400 miles from the PCD center.

Extreme Colors, Greenville, SC. Google is your friend.

700 miles back home for me. Figured it added two weeks to the delivery schedule. I don't mind the nominal wait for a once in a lifetime experience.

Buy xpel tracwrap. Temporary 8mil film looks like shit but works well. Took me about an hour with 2 people to cover the sections I did.

I just did PCD 1 week ago. Half of the group takes delivery right after the track driving while the other half does the X3/5 off road experience and museum tour. Then they gave us lunch (it was good) and the delivery//off road/museum groups switched. I was in the group that took car delivery first and I almost didn't bother hanging around for the off-road and museum tour. I'm very happy I stayed for everything. The off-road stuff will be more fun than you think, and you get to drive your car over to the museum and park on the sidewalk right out front. The museum tour is cool and pretty quick. We were still done by 2:00-2:30 latest. It was an awesome day and totally worth a 2 week delay in delivery. I'm 1 week into ownership with 400 miles on the car and I love every second of it. Can't wait to get the 1200mile service done so I can really open it up.

Edit:
Another small piece of advice: Don't have too many drinks at the hotel bar the night before and eat a light breakfast. I've done track stuff before, but I got pretty nauseous when my friend drove on the track portion. You have the option of not riding along and you should consider that if you are prone to motion sickness. I'm not, but I had too much bacon and gravy biscuits in my stomach! Gotta love southern eating...
