My car has just arrived at the Halifax port, it was built on Aug.26, 2016. I really hope it will come with the Michelin PSS. I have the Continental ContiSportContact 3 on my 2017 Golf R, it also found they are pretty noisy.

BMW has done this in the past, so no news here. Only ca. 60 % of M5/M6's come with Michelin rubber, for instance. It is kind of unfair from them as they are always boasting about model-exclusive Michelin tires (nothing unusual for OEMs to do) and then silently adding a new factory tire after one model year, though I bet it's just a matter of supply and demand. As of MY2016, they also put Continentals on non-ZCP M3/M4's with 19" wheels. 18inchers and Comp packs have Michelins. However, those are ContiSportContact 5P's. Now, why the old Contact 3's for M2? Why not Contact 5P or even the newest Contact 6 (on par, if not better, than PSS)? I guess they haven't finished developing the tires for BMW. By the way, I don't know if anyone knows this, but in ETK there are two OEM tires for the M2 - PSS and Cup 2... Could this be a hint of what's to come in the near future? P. S.: Y'all mad about Contis, but there are people on this forum who have got much worse tires on their modified M's. |

I believe the reason we are seeing cars with the Conti's is because Michelin could not or would not produce enough tires to meet the demand of the M2. Tire production is a real issue for the industry because after the recession production facilities were shut down and that production capacity has not been restored. There are many tire sizes that are not being produced at all leaving folks with high performance cars struggling to get tires for their cars. If your BMW and you have to choose between having an exclusive tire but not produce as many cars as you have promised or using an alternative tire it seems like a simple answer. I hope my car comes with the PSS but I am happy to have my car on the way to me so if it shows up with Conti's it won't be the end of the world.

The only place I could find PSS specifically identified was the Technical Training Manual which isn't a publication for the general public so I guess I will have to hope for the best.

My car has an actual production date of 8/12/2016. Wonder what tires will be on it when I pick it up next week... Awaiting release to trucker now, at the VDC for MPE install!

Just picked mine up at the performance center. Last week of July production start and finished after the first week in August. It has the Michelins on it. Another M2 there had the Contis. We tracked the cars with the Contis and they were still very capable and predictable on the track.

Just picked up (ED) on Monday at the Welt.
Mine was build week 37. Got Contis. While I have no experience with the PSS, my Mini Cooper S came with the same Contis (though run flats). Don't like them on my mini. Too early to tell on the M2 |

It's weird BMW wouldn't opt for the ContiSportContact 6 when the alternative is PSS. Although I haven't looked at the price difference.
Either way, now that the PSS successor (Sport 4s) is coming, I'll want to replace the stock tires with those anyways. |

I doubt price is the reason, I am pretty sure it has to do with the ability to get tires at the rate that BMW needs them.
