How's your vertical? I play 1-2 times a week and I'm starting to incorporate a workout to increase another 8-12". My ultimate goal is to reach 40". I'm entertaining the idea of going with vert shock.

Aside from heavy squats, you do anything else in terms of workout?

I never really measured it but I'm 5'9" and could get about 2 inches past my wrist above the rim. Could barely dunk off an oop. So maybe upper 30's??

My leg workouts were mostly squats leg press and some lunges. I did jump squats every once in a while. I also played almost everyday for a couple hours so I got lots of jumping in.

I'm 6'3" and could tap 11' on the backboard...

Nkc - listen, it's a big leap (pun intended) to increase vert by 6-8 inches.

It's like running a 5 flat mile, but then trying to drop that time to 4 flat...hard work will only take you so far. It is genetics (predisposition to that specific physical trait) which is found in the DNA of each person.

I speak from first hand knowledge as a person that trained for almost a year to drop the 1,600 time from 4:15 to 4 flat...some people are just faster, or can jump higher...

On the flip side, and until I was in my mid 30's, I didn't even train specific for vert, and could still dunk at 40...

Nkc - I'll share a legendary story about Karch Kiraly (Best Male VB Player of all time).

He played indoor VB at UCLA. Legend has it - Karch's last year at UCLA, a group of incoming freshmen Basketball players and their friends saw this 6'4" white guy in the corner of the gym doing some strange jump drill and started to make fun of him.

They kept teasing him until finally they needed a 10th guy for a full court basketball game. Karch, who had just finished his jump workout, promptly walked onto the court, and jumped off ONE leg from a standing position directly under the basket and dunked.

This guy had close to 48" vert - in the SAND. At 45, he still had 38-40" vert...
