ContiSportContact 3 for the rears?

My fronts are fine but my rears after ~9k miles are nearing the wear bars. So Im researching these at tirerack, and to my chagrin, its saying this tire in the rear size is not available for the car, even though that's what it came with new. So am i now forced to replace the fronts as well as the rears, despite the fact that theyve got more than half their tread left? On second thought, maybe thats a good thing.. Replace the rears with something better like Pilot Sport 4s and then when the fronts wear, replace with same. Ive never driven with mismatched tires but Im being told that if its not going to be on a track, it wont matter.

I made the mistake of mixing some Conti's with PS Sports on my old ZHP coupe once, and the results were SO bad, I was sure that something was wrong with the car besides the tire change. On high-speed sweepers I thought I was going to lose control of the car - and that was at the speed limit! I quickly got the other pair and all was immediately cured. I was shocked at how badly the car drove with mismatched tires at each axle. Never again!

Maybe if I stay within the Continental brand I wont suffer the same fate.. Thinking of teaming up the ExtremeContact sports which have some really decent reviews with the ContiSportContact 3 fronts.

I don't think so, ExtremeContact Sport is a much better (and different) tire than CSC 3. You probably won't crash or anything but I'd also recommend you keep the tire the same.

Don’t mix on a high performance vehicle. Beater farm truck and the like doesn’t matter. But a road car with power, the front and the rear of the car will be gripping differently, particularly worrisome in the wet. Welcome to staggered tires. If this irks you switch to a square set up and don’t choose directional tires. Many switch to square so they can rotate tires for more equal wear...

You have a 60+K car. Why would you cheap out and mix tires?

1. The 6 is the successor.
2. The Extreme Contact Sport is a VASTLY better tire, choose it instead.

And yes, it'll play well with your SC3.

I guess I can order 2 ExtremeContacts for the rear, and if it feels at all squirrely, order 2 more for the front.

***Update***

Today I bought two rear Conti Extreme Contact Sport tires to along with my front ContactSport 3. i figured if they dont play well together, I can replace the fronts with same.. no harm no foul.. Well, guess what... The mixed setup feels better to me than the Contact Sport 3 all around... I love these Extreme contact sport tires. There certainly is no perceived deficit with this setup. Maybe if you drive at the limits and do track days, this wouldnt be the way to go. But for spirited street use, its working fine for me.
