I just replaced the gaskets to be safe. They are cheap and not worth the hassle if there was a leak if I didn't change them.

I don’t remember seeing a #3 in my install. Possible it was stuck on the turbo flange and didn’t come off with the stock DP? It isn’t in the garage or on the stock DP....

You don't "need" to replace any of them. It is just recommended because you're already taking the car apart so why not freshen things up while you're in there. I've never heard of anyone needing to do the clamps though. Just make sure they are tightened down all the way when the install is finished.

I just started a thread about exhaust sounds. it's not getting a lot of love. But I just heard Saanen's FabSpeed with Dinantronic Stage 1 tune (on stock exhaust), and it's loud at cold start. I measured his at 125 db and mine at 108 if that helps at all, which it probably doesn't. But videos don't do exhaust justice IMHO.

Following him on a spirited drive through some twisties I actually caught myself giggling behind him. It sounds amazeballs on the road. And not obvnoxiously loud when not under WOT.

And fast. Wow. I'm going through with my FabSpeed purchase but I'm going to try to tune out the cold start.

I installed the ASD-delete harness 10 months ago as my first mod to remove the fake sound. The car's actually quiet inside when driving around in Comfort mode. Now that I've installed the Fabspeed Sport Cat to the stock exhaust (thanks to Mike at XPH ), all I can say is WOW.
The volume is comparable to stock Sport mode but the sound is so much deeper. I can feel the turbo spooling quicker by seat-of-pants and judging by the stock intake sound; my intake is stock and I've never heard it suck air like that until adding the Fabspeed SC.

Light-footing it is fine. Idling is fine. Wife and kids didn't notice the change.

Cold Start is a negative for me as well. My car is parked in B3 level in the apt. building, and it wakes up neighbors

Are you talking about #2 & 3?

#2 in this pic is causing me a fkn nightmare. I spent 3 hours and gave up trying to get the clamp on the new dp. Will try again in the morning

Update: went to Home Depot and get a longer bolt. Got it in this morning after about 15 min. I would say to anyone doing this as diy, don't use ramps as it's hell. Beg a friend that has a lift.

Update 2: damn it sounds great after 60 miles. Subtle when in comfort and baby steps, loud when on it and pissing neighbors off

Installing that front clamp is definitely the hardest part. It’s all about getting the DP positioned against the turbo to line up the flanges. I’ve done it 3 times now and it got easier every time.

So today I had my FabSpeed SportCat installed by TySpeed in NJ. He did an excellent job, and I highly recommend him. Mike at X-PH supplied my SportCat, and is a true professional. I also just flashed my car to the Stage 2 HEX tune by VF Engineering. The combination of th FabSpeed SportCat plus stock cat-back exhaust with the VF tune is more than enough sound... and is able to sound like a normal car in comfort mode.

I am 28 years old, and despite my young age I am not interested in anything louder... which is saying a lot since all 3 of my previous cars (2006 Audi A4, 2011 VW GTI, and 2015 Subaru STi) all had turbo-back exhausts with high-flow cats and ECU tunes. This combo of parts was under $2,000, and delivers so much more than any cat-back exhaust. I also went ahead and purchased the Cyba brushed stainless tips to replace the OEM ones, which will give the visual upgrade that an aftermarket cat-back provides. Overall I am extremely happy with this package, and plan to have a CSF intercooler with ER chargepipes installed early next month.

HJS raised their price on cats starting 2018, price of the Fabspeed downpipe is changing as well to $1395.
We still have 3 left from our previous order that we are selling for the old price

order my Fabspeed DP yesterday direct from Fabspeed! Was originally looking at the MPE but based on a lot of feedback on here have decided the Fabspeed is the better option.

The FabSpeed SportCat is amazing. I highly recommend adding a VF Stage 2 HEX tune as well. It’s a great combo.

I've been looking at that but I might have to wait a bit as i'm 2000km away from the only Certified Hex tuner in the Country!

You don’t have to bring your car anywhere to get it done. They send you everything you need to do it at home using your laptop.

Was out driving the M2 and during my drive it developing this high frequency rattle/buzz from what seems to be the downpipe area. It comes on during hard acceleration around 2.5-3K RPM and persists until redline. I had the downpipe professionally installed with new clamps and gasket as well. Before today this sound was not present at all. Anyone have any experience with this?

I just saw a thread from you saying it turned out to be an install issue and nothing wrong with the downpipe or cats

Completely an install issue. I had it professionally installed, and despite using new clamps the one bolt loosened up and was rattling. I think I had a small exhaust leak as well. The shop tightened the bolt and used Loctite. The rattling has completely resolved.

How do you like the downpipe now?
