For MY2016 under the "Options" tab they used to list a few M Performance parts but never the MPE.

For MY2017 all the previous M Performance parts are missing/gone/nada.

Most likely the dealer's configurator contains the M Performance parts including the MPE.

$4500 2985 for the exhaust and 1500 for the carbon tips. Less with titanium.

But our car also didn't go up in price (sick burn).

Yea, I can order MPE from my dealer for under $3,000. That is a crazy price.

How could some dealers be charging $3K for the MPE unless they are discounting it? I've also been quoted $4.5K. Doesn't make sense.

Not sure, but I think it's 3K but without the tips. Perhaps someone else can chime in with more details.

IND has it for $2400
http://ind-distribution.com/ind/cate...-valve-control

ECS for $2268.70

All of these prices are 100% without tips. You HAVE TO buy tips (titanium are circa $1200 and carbon are $1500). I can get the exhaust from my dealer for $2400 but again, doesn't include tips. The stock tips will not fit.

For example at ECS tuning right at the top:

BMW M Performance Exhaust
Does not include tips

Correct. Those prices are without tips. Earlier $3k was thrown around for just the exhaust, which is why I attached the links and quoted the request. IND forces you to buy both exhaust and tips ($900 titanium and $1300 CF), but ECS lets you order each part separately ($200/tip and $300/tip respectively). You don't "HAVE TO BUY" tips. The stock tips don't fit, but the "performance" tips don't actually do anything. One can put whatever tips they want on their car. I'd like CF ones, but ordering the system separate for way less than the dealer offers is a start for me. If you can get the exhaust for $2400 from your dealer, that's awesome.

ECS has the Ti tips for 206 a piece, carbon for 298. That means exhaust with tips is around 3100-3500. WAY less then the 4500 people were saying earlier. I would only get it from my dealer if they could offer it at a price similar to that.

Yep. Port install always costs more because they have to pay the install, storage, etc. Depending on how the installation is done, it becomes a wash.

For me, the price difference between port install and dealer with 20% discount was something like $800 for all the parts I wanted to get because I was going to have the dealer install them. At that price, there was no reason not to port install.

Another thing that no one ever talks about is sales tax. Depending on your state, sales tax can add a lot. Buying from your dealer is at your sales tax rate and some states will require tax on labor as well. However, buying/registering a car in NC is subject to 3% use tax only and no sales tax. Port installed parts are considered part of cost of the vehicle so the difference is 5% essentially since sales tax is 8% where I live.

Dumb question here but why do I want to get MPE on my M2? What am I getting out of it? I like a low growl as much as the next guy but it sounds pretty good stock. Is there any noticable performance bump?

One other point to note - with port install, you don't receive credit for, or get to keep, the stock exhaust. This can be a pro or con, depending on whether you think the stock exhaust is worth keeping or attempting to sell.

How I love that my state of Delaware has no sales tax
