Yes it's a pain in the ass but considering the car is absolutely amazing, it's a small issue and I don't really give a f...k

The car is a dream. Bmw delivered an amazing M car that is no doubt going to be a future classic.

Eventually they'll be some sort of fix I'm sure.

First world problems

Big love x

On a site note: Am I the only one that got rid of that annoying EfficientDynamics graph. That serves me no purpose in this car.

It seems that the part # for the M2 instrument cluster has been changed as of July 1, 2016.

No info as to what BMW changed.

Interesting! I have a MY17 and have driven in conditions similar to those stated and not seen the same effect. The contrasting seems to be fine, even in low daylight situations and wearing sunglasses.
It could just be a matter or time, but this lends some credence to what I was thinking.

4 Brownie points to whomever finds out what is different with these part numbers.

Good find.

Maybe the new module is more sensitive.

It is in the iDrive menus. I'll dig through them after work and take a picture, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

iDrive: "Settings" - "Instrument cluster" - untick the first box of the list.

Also, better untick most boxes of that list if you want to toggle (with the stalk on the left) quicker through the Onboard computer menu to the info that you personally prefer.

Same goes for "Drive mode info" in the control display menu: untick the box (under the brightness strip) and your SATNAV screen is no longer bothered when you change between Comfort, Sport and Sport+

If this is the case what would be the chances of them replacing the silver on grey instrument's on our delivered cars?
If they have indeed changed them they are all but admitting there is an issue with the current design as we have all been stating from day 1.

Hope this helps. I can take better pics tomorrow if needed. It was overcast although in the pic it seems as if the sun was shining.

I think you need some direct sunlight to replicate it, it doesn't look any different or additionally backlit to me.

Found the Differences of the Instrument Cluster

I found this pic on another Thread http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1304053&page=3

Is it change the instrument background from grey to black? Can anyone with MY2017 have confirmation on it? Thanks!

I second that: at first glance, it looks MY2016 (i.e. same color lay-out). But still, wondering whether BMW M toyed with the backlight to improve readability of the analog dials in darker lighting conditions.

Photos as requested from UK Sales Brochure July 2016.

Edited: I appear to have made a mistake. i have checked the brochure which came bundled with a July 2016 price list and the brochure is marked 2015.
Just assumed that it was a new MY brochure and thought the dials looked black compared to those in my MY16 car.

In both pictures, the low beams are switched on (see the green icon on the left hand side of the cluster), triggering backlight for the instrument cluster (ranging from white to outright amber/orange).

As we know, the backlight instrument cluster issue happens when the sensor decides that there is still sufficient light, while the human eye is struggling to comfortably read the analog dials in the 'cavity' of the instrument cluster.

2017 here and I can attest to no radical improvement. It can absolutely disappear under the right lighting conditions.

Yeah this absolutely an issue still on the MY2017. Its actually worse than the photo since the iPhone is trying to compensate a bit. This was taken with overcast skies during early evening.
