Who's going to remove the protective wrap over the rear fenders?
Goodmorning,
So who's removing the OEM rear fender wrap? Got my car home yesterday, and nearly had a stroke...at first glance it looked like I had a huge scratch on the fenders Never owned an M car; wondering how the wrap will hold up over time -c

I am getting my car wrapped with Xpel Ultimate and my installer will probably remove those in lieu of the Xpel material. Not 100% sure yet though.

Yup, that's about what it'll be. I saw 2 GT 350s getting wrapped yesterday and the installer tucks the wrap underneath the panels. It's very good work and I'm excited because when I drop my car off on Monday, the will have a Ferrari 458 Speciale getting wrapped that night!

I'll be removing it the first day i get my car. The edges turn into a dirt collector and starts to look really bad.
I tried to ask my sales rep if the factory could not install it but he said nope :/ |

So the sad part is at, least for my car which is white, is that that clear wrap is going to turn yellow and brown over time. However if I take it off, there will be millions of rock chips all over the rear fender...

I'm in the same boat. I guess we'll see how long it takes to look like crap. I guess we can just replace it when needed.

If it was me, i would remove it and take my chances at getting rock chips. I just treat it the same as the front bumper, it's going to get chips, nothing i can control unless i never drive it lol |

I wouldn't if I were you especially since you have a darker color like LBG.<---I kid . My 1M fenders are torn up to hell and BMW didn't feel the need to provide the protection. So if they think it's that bad, it's probably that bad.

Thanks for the info, how often do you think you were getting rock chips on your 1M? More common than the front bumper or same? |

Probably all the time. My front bumper doesn't have any chips. My hood got 1, the roof 2 and I think I really only have one bad one on the rear fenders. It's really not a bunch of chips more like someone took a sand blaster to it. A bunch of little tiny ones. I do live in a rural area so the roads are almost like gravel.

At least your car isn't white. It will probably look like poop after a week!

Expel Ultimate will not yellow. They key is to not use cheap wax or carnauba wax products on it. I have had white cars with clear bras for years and they do not yellow like they did 8-9 years ago. Now the factory piece on the quarter panel all bets are off since we do not know who makes it.

This is my concern as well ... I'm assuming the companies need a little bit of time to create the exact wrapping finish for this car since it's so new and not in the system yet.

I've seen detailers remove the yellowing parts off a bra using claybar.
It's not as hard to keep them from yellowing as it was in the past but I'm sure the quality of the film has something to do with it. A lot of it can be prevented by just getting bra cquartzed along with the rest of the car.

I am definitely going to leave it on my M2.They obviously put it there because they know that the area will get a bunch of wear from rocks and dirt.BMW will probably replace it for free,if it starts to go yellow before the warranty ends on the car.
