M2 - more coupe / less 2 door saloon

So I've always wondered how an M2 would look if BMW made it more coupe like - instead of 2 door saloon.

So decided to have a bash on photoshop.

I know its all hypothetical - but do people think BMW should try to make the coupes more like a coupe in shape?

And why don't BMW do that anyway - I'm guessing the 2 series coupe has to go through separate crash tests etc anyway - why not make it look more svelte and coupe like.

And what would people prefer to buy? The original - or something like this?

So... you want BMW to make the F82 M4.

My am I torn. The more coupé-like mock-up looks lovely. It really speaks to me. But I’m sure it would come with an attendant loss of headroom in the rear seats: a loss I couldn’t tolerate. That rear headroom is something I rely on every week.

And I really enjoy the increased visibility compared to something with a more classic coupé profile — say, something like the 370Z. That Nissan coupé has fairly mediocre outward visibility, particularly to the rear.

So, for me, if looks and styling were the only consideration, I’d well prefer the OP’s mock-up. But real life needs prevail, and so the actual F87 design wins out.

I think you would gain some distance in the wheelbase with your mock up no?

And prob lose some headroom in the back?

Personally I think f87 looks coupe like enough and has practicality that other cars do not, win win

Great work with the photoshop!

F22/M2 would’ve definitely looked better with a more coupe-esque design. I always thought the roofline looked awkward with that “hump” made to accommodate for rear headroom.

Good looking rending with the subtle change...but doesn't do it for me. I personally prefer the M2 look over the M4 look, hence why I got the M2...and its a lot cheaper :}

I can see the appeal since it's smaller than the M4 tho.

It looks like an M4, I prefer the shorter fatter look of the M2

hahaha, I thought the same thing, but its shorter body significantly, and I think has more presence (wide body more pronounced).

but yeh - essentially love the more swoops coupe form of the m4 - but its just too big.

yeh dont get me wrong - the practicality is great... but how often do people actually use the rear seats?

I don't need the rear seats - but want them on that rare occasion where I'm driving more than one passenger lets say maybe once a month or less.

So headroom wouldn't an issue as the journeys would be relatively short anyway.

Just think the M2 would possibly be even more popular than it already is. And if practicality is really the main priority - M4 F80 / M3 is cheaper and way more practical.

yeh dont get me wrong peeps - I love the shorter body of the M2 (why I bought the M2 instead of the M4, (in UK the M4 is actually cheaper on used market)!

And I still love how the M2 looks - but I just think if BMW made it more coupe like - it'd potentially compete with a 991 - especially when you look at the performance figures.

ps that photoshop job - I've only adjusted the roofline at back - all the other proportions I've kept exactly the same as M2
