Can someone explain how this works? My lease is up in May 2017, and I'd like to buy an M2. One dealer wants a $2000 refundable deposit and claims they'll have allocation for that time. Another has zero allocations and wants a $1000 non-refundable deposit (which sounds insane).

If I put down a deposit now, what are the waiting lists generally like? Do I have a good chance of actually getting one in May or are they just telling me what I want to hear?

Thanks

Looks like prod is taking a bit longer lately. Cars started in the end of July still aren't done in mid August.

Dealers here in Florida have at least a 1 year wait. Every dealer I contacted asked for $1000. I would suggest asking how many deliveries they have received this year so far and how long their wait list is. If you go through this thread you will see the time varies for going from waitlist to an actual allocation.

I've been reading these forums for awhile and, unfortunately, it varies a lot by dealer. It goes from some dealers not asking for anything to get on a wait list to others asking for various amounts of non-refundable deposits. You would think a non-refundable deposit would get you on a shorter list. Also, you would think there would be some sort of timeframe after which you would get a refund in case you never got an allocation.

Success of actually getting an allocation once on a list, especially if you want one at MSRP, is not high. But who knows what it will be like by May 2017?

My dealer did not require a deposit to be on the wait list. I had to give them my credit card info when I got my production number but they won't charge my card until it actually goes into production. Once I'm charged it is non-refundable. Seems fair.

Woohoo! It's so close! Please keep updating this timeline as I'm in NJ too and will be pretty much gauging exactly when mine would come based on your dates

That's the dealer internal system, DCSnet. It's the same thing that genius uses to check your status. Your dealer would be able to provide a screenshot like that one if you asked.

Having placed my order, I'm curious if there is an estimate of how many are currently on order. BMW should have that number. It's in their system somewhere. Compare to the annual production numbers, this would give someone an idea of how realistic a future delivery (if at all) would be.

Having not read thru this thread completely, I'm not aware of the estimated annualized productions numbers. That number, compared to the number of orders in the system, should give some indication of expectation.

See post #178, http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...php?p=20112001

Best estimate is to look at your dealer's last set of M2 allocations in June and hope they remain the same or increase and compare that to where you are on the list (hopefully your in the order bank instead of just a list). If you are not #1 or #2 chances are you are not going to get an allocation in September unless people ahead of your drop off b/c they are on multiple lists or lost interest. We have seen some people jump from #7 or #14 (if I remember correctly) to #1.

Might arrive at our dealers around same time since mine will be held up a little at port for installation of front and side grills. What color is yours? Mine is AW.
