Anybody else notice the M2 wheels start to spin and even begin to hook up before the AMG wheels even starts to rotate? Seems the M2 actually had a decent launch, quite quick reaction time. I think if this test was done repeatedly, 10 or more runs, the AMG would be more easily reproducible. Yes, even in less wet conditions. I'd still take the rear wheel drive config any day tho.

0-1000m race would have been interesting. The 4cylinder AMG would die off and the 6cylinder in the BMW would pull ahead.

I'd say this was to be expected. That AMG is a brute off the line.

The AMG is 280KW which is 375HP so they should be very close … remember that they make all those HPs from only 2 litres - not bad output!
Also, since when is life about 1/4 mile times - buy the car you like - drive it - enjoy it!

Im surprised how people are ranting about an AWD contender winning a race in the damp/wet. That is to be expected as simple mechanics came into play here. People should be praising the M2 for doing so darn well in the wet. I am really beginning to respect the little ///M.

I actually want one now!

So accelerating up to (insert a somewhat legal speed limit here, ie 60/65/70 mph) is extremely relevant in terms of the time it takes. And aside from bragging rights, the major mags (all of them) use 0-60 times as a part of their testing. Your comment suites the term "useless" much more than the relatively stellar wet performance of a RWD M car vs a FWD-based, pseudo AWD AMG that happens to rank amongst the ugliest cars ever produced. But that's a subjective comment lol, much like yours? 0-60 times are quite the opposite.
To be fair, an on ramp isn't a good example of 0-60. It would be more equivalent to a roll race. 30-80mph maybe?

Exactly - stack the deck against the M and then ridicule it when it loses by the slightest of margins...

It was a best of 5. They just posted one, the one where the amg actually won.
That's hilarious! Maybe they waited for it to rain too?

The first shot of the emblem on the tailgate, too. Hard to believe in many ways...

I love BMW, but in my mind the orange peel factor is really unacceptable.

A total tie with regards to the finish line. I still want a BMW M4 with rear bias xDrive!

Agreed,

I think there's an irony to the video, in which the M2 did so well as it did against a similar powered awd car and just goes to show how good it is.

... people favoring the M2 over the A45 on a BMW forum? Crazy.

I'll never grasp why people couldn't simply go: cool, it's a driver's race at the least and move on.

No one mentioned anything about the drivetrain loss of RWD vs AWD.

The higher the speed, the more advantageous RWD drivetrain has due to lesser moving components (less power loss) and thus more power to the wheels.

Given similar power, it is expected that the M2 will eventually overtake the A45 at higher speed unless its aerodynamic drag is much worst off.
