The new Boxster is better in every way, except for the sound. The guy is right, this is the future. Auto makers are mandated to lower the overall emissions from the fleet of vehicles they produce. Therefore, we will see only the few hardcore enthusiast models retain their NA engines. The bulk of the cars will have turbos. I do not see it as a bad thing. Who doesn't want a 300 hp car that does 0-60 in 4.5 that gets 40 mpg? It has an noise...its just different. Much lower tone than the scream of the flat 6. Sure the flat 6 sounds better, but I can give that up for the other improvements and the smaller carbon footprint.

Can't argue with this either.

Absolutely - they are going to be a lot faster, there's no doubt. And your 228 will be....well never mind.

I know it may not be everyone's cup-o-tea on these forums, but the upcoming Corvette Grand Sport is going to be priced near the 718 S. It would be tough getting a turbo 4 718 S when a 6.2L V8 engine with 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque and world-class handling can be had around the same price.

I did here about the paint quality though... My biggest qualm about the Corvette is that no matter how hard I try, I just can't love its looks. I think it is the rear of the car that bothers me aesthetically... |

I never thought I would truly enjoy it as much...and of course they're different, but I really really like it (the PDK). Perhaps if it weren't my daily - the traffic here in Plano/Frisco sucks!

I drive an automatic with paddles as my daily... The paddles don't get used much .. And while it's nice to have an auto for a daily driver sometimes... there's no way I could give up a manual on my sports car. Hence, I own horses for courses. |

I consider myself a pretty decent MT driver, but I can't shift perfectly every time, and there are days where I just wouldn't want to mess with it. That doesn't mean I don't want to go fast or enjoy my sports car experience. Quote:
And, if I want to row my own gears, well....there's this in the garage too.

I think all the Porsche fans getting upset about the flat 4 are forgetting their roots. Don't forget that Porsche truly started with the 356. The 911 may have been a extraordinary moment in history with its introduction, but Porsche was built on flat 4s.
I think if they had linked the 718 with the 550 Spyder in heritage, they would be a bit more successful. The new engine looks to be quite a nice piece of kit. I find the Cayman to be a bit too exacting and slightly underpowered for the price, but I'm sure the 718 will be a fun car for that buyer nonetheless. |

Just built a base model Cayman. Came out to 66k including LEDs, 20s, and leather dash/cloth seats (). Not sure if a traditional LSD is standard, if not the variable diff lock is another 3k bundled with PASM. |

Love the Cayman. I have to have a backseat, however, so it's not even an option. Even if it were, though, I'd choose the M2.... Not many cars have caught my attention the way it has.

I think there is general consensus that the BMW is the better value...and the default choice if you cannot afford the Porsche. I also think it is the clear choice for those needing a back seat.
I think the styling of the two cars is different enough to be a deciding factor for some. As it relates to the Porsche, some will be willing to pay a premium to get a 3,000 lb car with exceptional build quality, a better interior, and a truly superior suspension that delivers razor sharp handling with a daily driver ride. |

God, I could listen to this all day. I love love LOVE the exhaust sound with the PSE and it was one of the reasons I was this close to buy a porsche Cayman S.
It's just a fantastic looking, driving, sounding car. Bravo Porsche - that's how you make a sports car. |
