BMW should look to Hyundai for examples:

BMW still has the rwd M140i in some parts of the world at least for a couple more years?

Not as aggressive looks wise as it could be, and not a real m car, but ticking some of your boxes

I needed a hatch for work (have to transport some large bags) and I really wanted to purchase an m140i but for some reason BMW does not offer it in the US. I did some extensive research considering there is a BMW dealership 350 miles from me who sells it (in MX) and thought maybe with the same engine application as the m240i wouldn't make it impossible to import. After talking to multiple people, still seems like way too much trouble. Really unfortunate BMW would have sold a ton of these (me included) because it would literally be the only 6 cyl RWD hot hatch in the US... real shame. I had to get a golf R. Hopefully BMW doesn't totally lose me as a customer with another poor decision of not including the 6MT in the CS.

I would buy one of these if they offered it here in the US. Rented the 124d version in Germany 2012 and thought it was a great car, but a 6cyl gasoline M version would be awesome. Closest thing here is the e84 X1 which is a good vehicle in it's own right.

I've had the M135i and now the LCI M135i. Great hatchbacks. Would have upgraded it again if BMW did the M2 treatment on it! It's a shame they don't, seeing that the engineering is already 90% done.

M2 GTS

Has anyone else gotten on the list if either the CSL or GTS M2 comes out? Right now I'm #1 on the list in San Francisco. I won't be interested in just the CS version.

I'll be contemplating going with a p car if BMW doesn't make the hardcore version of the M2.

I currently own a 2017 BMW M2, I find its missing the soul that my US E46 M3 CSL conversion was. Some of you may remember my build from another forum. Everything on that car was true to form with OEM CSL parts including the best parts which to me were the induction noise from the oem csl airbox. I actually regret selling it, and I didn't need to move for my job after all.

Anyone else currently waiting while driving an M2? Or are you guys waiting to just purchase the gts or csl?

I have a 17 and am #1 on the list for whatever the next version will be...CS/CL/CSL. I really enjoy my M2 on track but look forward to a little more power and less weight. I just hope BMW doesn't put a ridiculous price on it like the M4GTS.

I'm just putting a deposit down myself. My dealer tells me I would be 3rd or 4th on the list... What does that mean, for a super rare car? If the dealer's a medium sized one, how does the allocation work? They'd maybe get one every couple of months? In which case, my position would be at minimum like a six-month wait?

(on mobile- assuming you're in the US)

It depends on a few things; their total volume of M sales will influence how many cars they get. I work for a center that is large in our market but not necessarily large in M sales. We received 1 out of 300 M4 GTS. In 2011 we received 3 out of 740 1M's. Sooo....depending on how many they make?? Remember M4 CS is slated for 3000 units worldwide; which is based on a higher production volume car than the M2. I'm guessing equal to or less than M4 CS numbers and that my store will get 1 or 2.

If it were me I'd ask how many M4 GTS's they received and then extrapolate from there.

There are also people in the camp that found evidence that points towards it not being a limited production car by intent but rather just by production capacity of the factory. ...Sounds familiar to the story of the 1M's volume. Factory lines worked overtime to produce the 1M in "off" hours from the rest of the 1 series cars at that time. That ended up being 6309 units worldwide.

So, who knows. It's better than being number 4.

Everyone that is on the waiting list for the CS better have pricing in writing too. Lots of those people on the 'list' will slowly drop off the list when the dealer will play the 'adjustment market' game. I got screwed this way during initial M2 launch.

So people that are on the CS list without pricing in writing have a big surprise in store for them.

I sure have learned my lesson.

Get your point but How can you have pricing down when the car doesn't officially exist yet?

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be off any lists when BMW announces the CS at a 15-20k premium putting the car in the 72-77k range. To be honest, at that price you can keep the S55 and the aero mods like the M4 CS.

The way I look at it, people are now spending 15-20k to upgrade the suspension, exhaust, downpipe, intercooler, air intake , ecu, and aero to get more out of the current M2, so this price makes sense to that type of buyer.

Many with the pricing IN writing will still end up being surprised as well. Just saying ..

I assume in writing you would want that they will sell the car at or below MSRP and not "market adjust" the price above MSRP as they see fit.

If you are spending that I cant agree. You are in P-car territory now. I am FBO with BM3 and camber plates and Ive spent 3k. You dont need an exhaust, wheels,etc..Its all for looks or sound and does nothing in performance.

Seriously? You're gonna mod the s55 almost 99% guarantee so goodbye warranty. Oh BMW of Sarasota is really cool and overlooks the FBO too so still have a warranty.

That's awesome. My dealer won't do ED on specialty models, but will do MSRP.
