Out of warranty turn signal malfunction.

Any idea what the cost for BMW to replace tail light or fix the dreaded rear turn malfunction when out of warranty. Of course out of warranty for 2 months and this shit happens. I read about coding it out. Anyone have success with that or any other ideas. Thanks.

socket panel and new wiring

OG and not LED:

You might rewire both taillights. Parts:
Code:
Part Number	Part Name	Price	Quantity	Total
61-12-2-448-168	Repair Cable Tail Lights 611013	$26.51	2	$53.02
63-21-7-370-291	Socket Panel	$59.01	1	$59.01
63-21-7-370-292	Socket Panel	$59.01	1	$59.01
You do not need the entire taillight. The wiring kit changes up the ground connection.

LED:
There are plenty of threads here, and one with updates that are rather current, that indicate the taillight alone might not be the culprit.
Rear tail light failure

FWIW, I replaced both socket panels and did the wiring (silly easy) on the OG taillights before noticing both lights were cracked (subtle, but annoying). Subsequently, I dropped in the LED taillights (more wiring) and figure as long as the connections are good I will be OK (fingers crossed and all that). $205 SF BMW? +Shipping.

I thought BMW drivers don't use turn signals?

If LED, then coding the lights to LED by changing this setting to "Active" with bimmercode has worked for me.

Pics show setting after coding.

Before coding (as in from factory) the turn signals were set to Not Active (not LED), and the other lights, fog, tail lights etc were "Active".
IMHO the car thought the turn signals were normal filament bulbs, hence the error. Now they are set to LED I don't get the error anymore.

Yeah I'm a 2018 n55 I believe they're LED. I'll give this a shot and see. I keep reading that replacing them just leads to it happening again and again

You mean this is a known issue and BMW is not going to replace it out of warranty?

That's terrible.

I have a 2018. I coded it out with no issues. Then reversed coding right before warranty expired so I could get new tail lights. Been 18 months and it hasn't come back.

Whether replacing just the cable or entire housing, it's super easy. It's like three screws to remove the tail light. I'd replace the tail light and just be done with it if you aren't comfortable coding it

Leaning towards coding. I read a few instances of it coming back after replacing the tail light. Not exactly trying to replace my tail light every 10-15k miles if it just keeps happening lol

Came here to add that I had been dealing with the intermittent turn signal error for like a year now. It got to the point that probably 1 in 3 times that I used a turn signal, it would trigger the error and then my signal would be f'ed up until I restarted my car. It was so annoying that I basically stopped using turn signals (har har typical BMW driver right?).

I just did the coding mentioned above last night before going out. 0 errors last night and I ran some errands this morning and had 0 errors. Hoping it stays like this, sweet fix!!
