Hey guys. long time reader and decided to make an account today. I'm getting my M2 on March 20th delivery . Someone ordered it and cancelled. I was lucky to get a march delivery. This is my first M car. I've noticed that some people wrap the car? is that worth it? any insights from current M owners would be appreciated . Thanks guys.

This may be a silly question, is the 2019 M2 only the M2 Cs/M2 Competition, or will there still be a Base M2 2019?

And also on the “U” - the A pillars and the header above the windshield. On my car, that area has taken as many hits as the front bumper.

I did A pillars but not above windshield. Didn't want to see the line on the roof. We will see if I regret it. I have taken a lot of rocks to the windshield though holy crap.

It depends entirely on how fastidious you are with cars, how long you will own it, and how you will dispose of it when the time comes.

If you are lazy (like me) and you are just going to trade the car back into a dealer when it is time to get rid of it, then don't spends five cents on this sort of stuff unless your ego is all wrapped around whether or not you have a rock chip somewhere on your car. And if you are going to resell your car later on a private party basis, do figure out how much your time is worth, and deduct that from any extra cash you get vs. just trading the car in.

Even if you are thinking you will keep the car until the wheels come off, do you really think that you are going to have a pristine car when it is 6 or 8 years old, and has 75,000 miles on it? You could do some serious panel repainting years from now, for the cost of "protecting" your paint.

Go buy some paint sealant, keep your car clean and apply sealant every few months, when it needs it.

Hahah.. that makes sense.. I will use it as a summer car. I have a 2016 528 for winter and all of that. I agree with you though. had more than 7 bmws in total and never went crazy. it's my first M car though. can't wait!

One more question: When I signed the paperwork for my car the msrp was 2000 less than bmw website. My sales guy said that it's the same car, but it's like the first batch? he said all features are there as listed on site. it's just a different price. Does that make sense? It's a 2018 model

$1000 was the price increase in early January. Don't know about the other $1000, but could conceivably be the price increase then on any options the car has.

In my area (with snow and ice and sand and salt and hard-headed bugs in the summer), I won't own another car without paint protection film on the front end. After 3 years and 36,000 miles, cars without it can be a pockmarked, rusty mess. Plus, for the last two cars I've traded in (at different dealers) the appraisers added the amount of the original Xpel treatment to the trade-in values - which was pretty good, considering the replacement vehicles were bought under invoice due to company incentives. I keep my cars clean, but they're daily drivers.

OTOH, I would not just cover your whole M2 with PPF. Drive around and check the dirt and splash patterns on cars comparable to yours and put PPF on the areas that gather the most road garbage. On my GT 350, for example, it was essential to cover the bottom quarter of the doors and the entire area in front of the rear wheels; on my M2, besides the front end and hood, we covered the "U" - the A pillars and the header over the windshield - because those areas seem to take more hits than anywhere else on the car.

Plot twist, decided I'm going with an E92 M3 as a last hurrah of high revving NA glory while cars are decent and prices low. The M2 is definitely in my future though.

But what about the endless torque down low?

LOL kidding. Good choice on a equally good sounding M car.

Enjoy.

Haven't found the right car yet but the decision has been made! I have AGONIZED over this decision. In 3-5 years though I can get a great N55 M2 but doubtful about an E92 at that time. The M2 competition will be interesting to learn about in April but the LCI will be the sweet spot IMO.

I think you are right. I am planning on keeping my LCI M2 for a long time.

Seems like a good time to buy one. I am considering one in addition to the M2.

I was on the list for a MY19 M2 competition...but from the start of 2018 they made some fiscal company changes in my country that affect me. If I buy a new car this year or the following years it wil cost me a lot more. It will not affect my current MY17 M2 as long as I keep it

So I'm also planning on keeping my current n55 MY17M2 for a very-very long time. For reference; I kept my previous daily car for more then 10 years after switching to a M2. The M2 is my daily car that I drive a lot! I also do 8 trackdays a year. So a MY19 M2 competition with more power (only really useful on track), bigger brakes in option, more sporty suspension, better sport seats, sounded as a nice upgrade from my current M2.

I told my dealer to delete my name of the M2 Competition list. So the new plan is to upgrade my current M2 in the future with different suspension, CUP 2 tyres, brake upgrade...and in the process I don't have to live with the bad S55 sound and not so nice S55 power delivery (personal opinion).

Your salesperson should be able to track the car’s daily movements.
