Might be faster. Probably will be better overall, but... massive improvement? Maybe not. Exhaust note and turbo lag are both better on the N55. High end pull, tunability and overall power are better on the S55. How much power, though, is too much for the M2 chassis? The M2 is already a handful without stability control. The M3/4 will push driver skill even more. I'll bet less then 5% of this forum is good enough to really drive an M2 with M3/4 power levels close to its limit. I certainly am not.
Chassis likely won't be better than a good aftermarket coilover set on the non-CSL. If it has adjustable dampers, I'm not sure that is an improvement other than in ride quality and I wouldn't be buying a CS because it is smoother cruising on the highway. Don't get me wrong, I would take the CS over the base M2. How much is the price going to go up though? If it gets high enough, the competition gets a lot more interesting. 60k is only 5k over the current M2. 65k is 10k over and that seems to be the number most people are looking at. How will it compare to the M3/4, C63 AMG, etc. at 65k base? All this is assuming you can get a CS. If they follow the M3/4 model, it will be limited. If you aren't already on a list with a deposit, you may be out of luck. All this is speculation until we actually have the car and pricing in front of us. |

Not much power? Try to stomp the gas from stop dsc fully off and feel and hear it roar!
I've had a bunch of cars but this is a keeper. |

I have the M performance suspension so plan to keep as is. Only performance mods I'm planning for the car are a cattted downpipe and custom tune. For tracking: Set of AP BBK for the fronts, RE tranny bushings and SSK.

In short I love my M2, love the sound, the look.
In reality you will only use the full power on a track. Paying x amount more money for more power and different seat and to say you have the newest M2. Is it worth it???

There's people out there who always feel they have to be among the first to get the next "best" thing. You usually see them outside of an apple store with a sleeping bag and tent or hear them discussing the next Tesla they preorder'd 3 years in advance. They're just constantly on the hunt for new tech. It's an addiction. Like heroin.

Am keeping my 2017 for a good reason, I've looked at my car VIN online and We share same birthday 😁
S55 better tune engine, but hearing the M3/4 sound in the M service center....it makes me feel like my M2 is the super car and the rest are entry level ! M2 S55 will have +30hp.... maybe +50hp extra tuned...0-60 .2 second better time. I just hope BMW engineers will make a miracle by making it sound better than what i heard from couple of videos. actually am skipping all upgrade until 2022 with new engine technology etc. |

Good choice, e46 M3s are actually appreciating. I think they might go up quite a bit in 10-15 yrs. Last of the NA inline 6.

Since the M2 is my first M car, I would love to keep it forever. Whether or not it holds value or not, even if the value drops like a rock, I'm keeping it. Too much sentimental value to sell it.
Of course there will be other cars that I would love to buy, but I would keep the M2 even with future cars.

S55 M2 albeit detuned will make at least 40whp more, which is 50 to crank. In real world, power difference is huge. The 'street don't need power' talk is funny.

M2 is nearly a perfect balance. Performance is in alignment for chassis, brakes and steering. Price is just right also. An s55 and other m4 accoutrements make it a car that is now out of balance. Too much power, too much money. Now it's a mess of excess. The enemy of good is better. I went through a phase of all of my cars needing 5 or 600 hp. There's a lot to be said for the genius of providing a balanced package over just power. Hellcat?

I would not like those race car seats in my DD. They seem so rice racer to me. S55 yes. Worth it to change - no - especially with the showy seats. I think the present M2 has enough "Bling" for my tastes.

As a relatively new 2018 M2 owner, need to see what the MSRP and initial reviews are before I trade up. Worry a little about initial reliability similar to the rock issue of the 2016 and 2017's.

I'm jealous of those of you who live in places where 365hp just isn't enough. Here in the USA where speed limits are 70/75mph pretty much everywhere, 365hp seems like a lot to me. But then I look at the Miata, which with only 155hp is the best selling sports car of all time (albeit much lighter, of course), and to me 365hp seems like a lot! All a matter of perspective I guess...

That's really big difference, but where will you use this extra power ? Track , or straight racing? Don't get me wrong every extra power is a welcome...but in terms of me as a sport daily driver the current M2 has the perfect power ratio. If i want to race on empty highway i wouldn't even think about M car. I will go American. Personally the 350 to 400whp is more than enough for a daily sport car use. I don't know maybe the M2 S55 will make your head stick to the headrest when you push full paddle and it will sound better than M3. We should wait soon. |
