There are always going to be the forward lookers who really cannot afford to buy and will wait out for every new thing..one thing I know , this car is getting more expensive every year...from 2016-2017 to get the same warranty is $2,049 more, the same paint has been increased by $150 bucks, and the exc package is up $150....total $2,349 bucks more for the same car.

If they change the engine, add more options kiss the 51K sticker price goodbye, and changing the nature of the point of this whole car...the min sticker price of the next model up is 64K, that is 13K plus you can stack the options till the hill.

Folks, enjoy one of the best cars every made, today...for what I consider the bargain price of the century....pure fun....

Instead of looking at the S55 debate from the perspective of an enthusiast we should be looking at it from that of BMW. What motivation would they have to put a more powerful and more expensive engine in the M2? To sell more? They have no issue selling this car. How do you sell the M2, M3 and M4 with the same engine??? I believe that there will be a CS or CSL version of the M2 that will likely have the S55 but that will be an expensive and limited run car. What I think is likely for the M2 in the future is a tuned B58 but I doubt that we will see that until the M3 / M4 has more power. BMW needs to maintain a pecking order that creates a space in the market for each model.

Apparently you'll get there very quickly with the 900 HP engine.

And it won't even have brakes, putting the LED/non-LED issue to bed permanently. -scr

Well, I think LEDs look better. Anyway there must be some truth to the safety of LEDs since many commercial trucks have had LED retrofits done. I don't think that they would spend the money unless there was a good reason.

If you are going down the autobahn at 140 mph, I can guarantee you that when someone slams on their breaks in front of you every split second counts.

This article from Hewlett Packard states that the difference between LED and incandescent bulb response time is equivalent to about 20 feet at 65 mph.

All the talk about the S55 engine in a special edition M2 but has anyone heard anything regarding weight reduction on this supposed model? The bigger engine is nice but this car still weighs the same as the M3/M4, would be nice if the M2 CS/CSL would have a curb weight around ~3200-3300 lbs.

I mentioned this before and I'll say it again. The reason there is a performance gap between the M2 and M3/4 is to limit canalizing the M3/4 sales. Maybe based on 2 years of market research BMW realizes that even with the gap the M2 is still cannibalizing sales while have a lower profit margin than the M3/4. So they decide to increase the price of the M2 to low $60Ks with a higher profit margin and they don't care if the M2 steals sales from the bigger brothers.

Which is irrelevant because nobody can get the car at sticker right now

The real problem is that when my number comes up on the wait list, will a car even be available? And if the only option is a M2 CSL S55 (which will be unobtanium) or a huge price hike, I'm just going to get a Coxster for what will end up being the same price.

That's why this S55 speculation is infuriating.

Sorry, this is untrue. Unless you get REALLY lucky and happen to walk into a dealer that just had someone bow out, it will just take some (maybe a lot) leg work. Not impossible, lots of people here have done it.

Simple. The rs3. 0-60 in 3.7 sec. Will toast the m2. The m2 will need to up the ante to keep ahead. And the m3 will get kicked up to 450hp.

If the traffic light grand prix is your thing, then that's all about the 0-60 really mean.

It already is with the Competition pack.

The RS3 is still dynamically flawed, no matter how quickly you get to 60Mph. A transverse engine ahead of the front axle just doesn't cut it.

I got my M2 at MSRP and not a dollar more.
There are a few reputable dealers out there.
Mine is in NH.

Totally agree, I don't want an rs3. However, those numbers sell cars and bmw doesn't want to be left behind. Not to mention the m240 numbers, which are also nearly on top of the m2.

unless you track your car at least 5 times a year, Audi isn't so bad of an option if a person can't find the M2. Audi is not a bus that you are confused of. if you are track junkie, BMW fanatic and searching for that extra 10th of a sec, yes, M2 is better than an Audi.
