No, you are indeed correct.

Received 5% off of car with like $2600 in promo savings that BMW was running. It was close to $7k, all said and down. But the car was a lot more expensive with the $17k m performance add on to the base . But I got my manual.

I'm on the list for comp but waited too long so it's at least a year out. Ive had my N55 for two years.

With the exception of some sever clutch Shutter, I'm happy with the car. (My dealer is dropping in a new clutch body as I write this)

The sound is great for a turbo 6. I have Dinan Exhaust plus resonator delete. It sounds better than any S55 I've heard, short of a $9k Akrop kit. If the clutch fix addresses the Shutter I may go Dinan power kit.

I'm sure the comp will improve in some ways. I'll hold judgement on style changes until I see it in person. Look forward to the comparisons, if the responsiveness of the S55 brings a new edge to the car.

I'm not saying don't buy it, I literally purchased a 2018 LCI M2 w/ N55 only 6 months ago. The N55, while great, is exceeded in virtually EVERY aspect of engine metrics by the S55, even if you remove the higher HP figures and terrible sound. Pound for pound, the S55 is a far superior engine, by virtue of it *had* to be. It was designed by the M division to withstand far worse conditions than the standard N55, but that's neither here nor there.

The argument between them is a moot point. They are both astounding engines, and are more than capable of doing 99% of the things people will use them for here. Even the most hardcore track enthusiast will hardly be left wanting more than an N55 when fully track prepped and proper cooling.

The point of having the M2 Competition isn't because of the S55. It's the same reason why people want the M4 GTS and will NEVER track the car: exclusivity.

The simple fact is, the B family of motors is going to replace the outgoing N series and will then have another S-variant of that from the M division. EVERY manufacturer (aside from GM and their same LS series with only minor changes) utilizes a refresh of engine platforms after about 6-8 years. It's time for the N55 to say goodbye, and usher in the newer engine family. It's the last of it's kind. The S55 has only been used since 2014, so no it's not long in the tooth, and its a relatively short lifespan in BMW terms. However, the N55 is the LONGEST running engine platform in the last 25+ years from BMW; the average lifespan is about 6 years. The N55 has been in use since 2009. Edit: the N63 beat it out by 1 year at 2008-
I tried the B58 and it's incredible and it has tons of potential. I had read on this forum that the S58 would be in the next M3/M4 and that the S55 is seeing its last hurrah in the the M2 Competition. Maybe that was incorrect?

No, you are indeed correct.
Thank you. So the S55 is indeed long in the tooth as well and the M2 Competition will soon be the only M in production using that engine.

Just picked up my Mineral Grey Metallic, 6 speed manual! It's so much better looking than the pictures. I was pleasantly surprised! Never seen one in person. I was also ecstatic because it was wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports, not Contis!

Yee haw!

Not even worried about my choice anymore. I could care less about the comp. Unless one pulls up next to me. Ha.

2K plus 1.9 for 60 months. I ordered it 3 months ago so it wasn't sitting on a lot.

Where will you really use ~10% more power? Are you a track rat? If so, it might make a difference if you're a really good 10/10ths driver. Also, with the waiting lists that supposedly exist for the M2 S55, are you ready to wait a year or more before you can get your hands on one, likely at a higher price?
Well, they'll definitely be using that extra power from 0-60.

Yeah, a whole tenth of a second, according to BMW. A good M2 driver will be able to easily pick that up.

Never understood this "what do you need the x amount of extra HP for?". As long as the the car consistently delivers the extra power, I will take it for anything you can think of. Track, canyons, highway pulls, etc... M4 Comp makes 440whp and never thought it was too much power. I like to keep the revs high and occasionally shift at the redline even if it means triple digits depending on the gear. If we go by the same logic, 370hp is too much for the street and useless too. Why don't we all go get a Miata then? Also, the difference will not be just 10% or 40hp. With a simple M3/M4 CS software flash, M2C will make 450whp. With some wider 295s at the back, it will be one hell of a car.
