Tire rub help needed
Just installed my track tire / wheel / spacer / stud package, prepping for the first track day of the year this weekend. After install I noticed I'm getting some tire rub.
The tire rub is occurring only when turning right with steering wheel roughly one full revolution, which is typical in parking lot speeds (which is the only place I drove tonight after install). The driver side tire is rubbing against the fender liner. The passenger side seems to have enough clearance when taking tight parking lot turns. I was also able to confirm that only the driver side tire was making contact with the fender liner when stopped and checking lock to lock for clearance issues. Also, worried a little that although this may not necessarily pose an issue on track since I've never done a full revolution of steering input but there may be additional rub when on track and compressing the suspension. Although speedbumps in the garage did not seem to pose any rubbing issues. Is this possibly an issue with my install, size, or suspension setup/alignment? I worked with Apex to work out the right size and installed the stud kit per Apex directions, although I don't think the studs/spacers could possibly cause the problem. Would like to have this figured out by Friday. Thanks in advance for any advice/thoughts/insights. Here's the facts/Specs: Nitto NT01 tires 275/35/18 square 33ET - installed tonight Apex SM10 18x10 wheels square - installed tonight Apex 12mm spacer up front suspension clearance (clears suspension) - installed tonight Apex Wheel stud kit - installed tonight Bilstien PSS10 adjustable coilovers (lowered roughly 1 inch all around) GC Camber Plates (2.7 negative camber up front) Here are some illustrative pics of how the car is sitting now. I don't see how it could be an install issue. Are the drivers side alignment specs slighfly different to the passenger?
Or maybe just the extra weight from you on deicers side is enough to make that side rub? |

Thanks everyone for your input. I went for a 20 minute test drive and it miraculously went away.
Also, stopped off at Auto Technic and added some camber, raised the front a few mm and also did a full alignment / corner balancing. So hopefully, I'll be good at the track even under compression. I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks. |
