F87 M2 vs F80 M3 Competition

Hi all,

I'm about to sell my F87 M2 (LCI) and hop into an F80 M3 Competition (LCI2).

I'm wondering if there are people here who own(ed) both and what your opinions are on both these cars in terms of fun, quality, ownership, emotions, etc. and how they compare.

I still adore my M2 to death, but this opportunity crosses my path, so look forward to your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

TheHunterHofman

I own an LBB OG M2 and the wife owns an SO M3 Comp (LCI2). Both are in manual (we don’t like autos).

I like both cars. For everyday street driving the N55 is better with more low down torque. When on the beans though the high end surge in the S55 is mental. The N55 is much more linear as you Rev it out.

The M2 is smaller but the difference to me was a not that big as both cars are the same width. It’s only the length that’s different and it’s not that big. The M2 is more go cart like with the M3 feeling much more refined.

Sound wise my M2 has the MPE and the M3 has a secondary cat delete.I like how both sound but M2 sounds better.

I wish the M2 had an illuminated shifter and the shift lights. This annoys me.

Drive the F80 and see what you think. They are both Brilliant cars and it’s hard to decide a winner. We are happy we have both!

Just to add that I’d you had the M2C it would have been far easier to recommend the M3 personally. It’s a much harder decision as you have the OG LCI as the cars are more different in character.

Wow! I’ve really benefitted from all your M2 how to YouTube videos, so I’m sad to read this. But also, if you’re going to keep creating “insane video content” (!!) for the M3 community, I’m happy for all the M3 owners out there!

If that is the real hunter Hoffman, I just checked my M235i door frame for the rubbing and sure enough it was present. I polished and waxed it, it should help the two surfaces slide

Thanks for the input; it is still a hard decision as I really adore the character of the M2. I guess the M3 Comp will be a hell of a platform too.

Thank you man, that's good to hear. Will definitely be making more content in the future; hope you follow along!

Ah yeah, good to hear. If you cover the area with the PPF I showed in the video it will permanently solve the issue too.

2018 M2 N55  [9.50]
Hi, I previously owned a 2016 m4C
And traded it in for a 2018 N55 M2 OG
The m4 is a GT car
The m2 is a street go-kart lol a lot more fun
The top end power in the m4C is the only thing I miss and the interior plus seats
Exterior Looks are subjective.
The sound with a down pipe and mperformance exhaust is to me so much better then the S55.
With a tune and 505 WHP I hit a 1/4 mile
In 11.9 but only once usually 12.1-12.3 in the m4
With a stage 2 tune the m2 was pushing
Only 410Whp but my 1/4 mile was also
12.1-12.3 but at the end of the 1/4 the m4
Would catch up and then fly by around
6-8 miles faster.
So I’m really pleased with how well the m2
puts the power down compared to the M4
M2 struggles after 270km and the m4
just kept pushing till 300km

Anyways both cars are great but with my
average driving skills I find the M2 more enjoyable on Track and even more on the street
😉
