ABC News & Brian Ross are at it again. Anyone remember the Toyota Runaway Acceleration hoax? Where's the data? Journalism these days is such bullshit. It's garbage content with priority squarely on drawing eyeballs.

Exactly...
Let's focus more on what's happened where News is more about entertainment and getting eyeballs instead of being accountable and reporting REAL news. They feel they have to go down that slimy infotainment route or lose viewers to competitors who will. Gone are the fairness doctrine that would give divergent views and use chyron to indicate the views expressed were OPINIONS not facts. Today's gullible viewers just hear sound bites and spread them as truth, but somehow are either too lazy to investigate the facts or miss the retractions that are buried in later editions/time slots.
Finally, 90% of what you're hearing/seeing is controlled by SIX corporations...so the joke is on you!

ABC news should go after something more newsworthy like the M3 rod bearing failures...

"Unexplained fires plaque BMW"

I think you meant "plague". Plaque is a dental thing.

First off, I didn't put that link up there. Jason took the liberty of editing my post.

In my original post, I mentioned that I recall reading about a member whose X caught fire. I didn't even put a link *in* my original post, as I didn't have time to look for the one I recalled reading. Jason did that. After your commentary, though, I spent a little time digging.

This is the story I recall: http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770839 which was one Jason himself posted. So yeah....

I'd also like to point out that he edited the title by adding the "BMW NA responds".

Regarding the rest of the commentary, people can take it how they want. Don't shoot the messenger. Does it mean I'm going to stop driving my car and that you should, too? Nope. Does it mean that hey, maybe there are people that aren't aware of this and maybe as a community we could discuss it? Absolutely.

For all the "fake news" comments....those of us w/S65s and S85s are *still* dealing with the naysayers that say there's nothing wrong with our rod bearings

Whatever the underlying issue might be, the reason it's being presented like this is because bmw pissed off one dedicated enthusiast.

I can speak from personal experience to the piss poor after sales treatment customers get from bmw. Mercedes is ironically much different and seem to treat forum regulars like kings.

It's just smart business in whatever industry you are in. If bmw just acknowledged this guy and his hardship we would likely not be reading this right now. If BMW took steps to help resolve or even more then that even lessens the chance of issues like this ballooning. Basic stuff that seems to have fallen to the wayside at bmw.

I wouldn't just dismiss this to "rodents" arson or anything other than a real safety issue. It's being reported and probably many more. I think that Jalopnik and that Jalopnik article is bunk.

Typical BMW to deny or claim as "normal" until the NSHC investigates and proves it's a real safety issue.

A patient of mine who knew I drove a BMW asked me if I had heard about this this morning. It was the first I'd heard of it.

Reminds me of faulty fan switch back in 2000.

As for the ABC story, one car was brand new (4 series?).

Experience is going to vary person to person. In your experience, you say Mercedes treats customers like kings and BMW does not. I have had two family members that say different which is why they left Mercedes and now drive BMW's and another family member who was shunned by both BMW and Mercedes and now drives a Porsche.
