At our BMW CCA events we at least give you 10 runs so you get 10 minutes .. They are entirely different sports since in one you are competing for time (autocross) and the other you aren't really competing at all. True story on the tire wear at autocrosses being Greater at an autocross but that's because you are competing and also making much sharper turns. As far as hpde.... Tell the truth in your statement " - it's a lot more fun and way more drive time - and it's also 10-20x more expensive than autocross." |

I wish my BMW cca would keep driving events. I wrote them when I joined because I saw other districts keep like autox and track days but they said they don't have the following for it. I'm sure if they start they would get more people to join and attend events. So I basically have the membership for the magazines and the rebate. In terms of cost autox is about $50 for 5 mins of drive time so that's $10 per min. Or you said you get 10mins puts you at $5 per min. Track day is $300 and total drive time is around an hour and a half puts you at about $3 per min plus that includes food, drinks and water all day, plus you don't work in your down time.

For one track day at $300 one can attend an autocross 6 times at $50 Which means a track junkie gets to be driving their car 6 out of a possible 8 weekend days that month Compared to one day in that month. that's a huge difference. Keeps your skills sharper by doing it more often and of course you are having fun 6 times vs one time. Of course if one has other hobbies then one might be happiest with just one weekend day a month. I participate in both - the take home point here is that clearly they each have their merits. |

But this was in Puerto Rico where I used to live and it was with a car I had just for track days. Brought it with me to Florida but was only doing Auto X because its the only close events I could find. With the M2 I want to do full tracks and PBIR is about an hour and a half away. |

Once I get into it again I am pretty sure I will continue visiting others. I want to do Homestead and also Daytona if possible.
Wasn't shooting for it before since the track car I drove to and from the events. Didnt want the hassle of a pickup and trailer but the car was punishing driving for 2 hours. This car will not be a pain driving to and from the events |

I was doing Auto X with Central Florida and they had a couple events there which were a short layout on the infield I believe. |

I'm going to my first HPDE tomorrow at road Atlanta. Congrats on the car. I remember when Nalley BMW was Chris BMW. It's where I bought my 95 m3 used, several years ago. I wish I had been more assertive in my search for M2 allocations, because as time has passed, I realized it wouldn't have been that hard to get one.

Mine came with two sets of floor mats, one set of carpet mats and one set of rubber winter mats. The rubber mats were installed, the carpet mats were wrapped in plastic in the trunk.

Thanks. Two sets seems very generous. I wonder if the second set was courtesy of the dealer. -scr

My track event was fun and a learning experience bigtime. I didn't take a lot of pics. I do have some video with my dashcam, but it's real noisy from wind, and I still have to piece it together and edit it. I was finally able to see an M2 in person, and it was everything I expected. It looks like a muscled up version of the M235i, LOL, very impressive. One thing I learned from my track day is it's not so much about the car, but the driver. I've always heard that was the case.
As rare as the M2 is, in my city an M235i is pretty rare also. Mine was the only one on the track, and I got a lot of compliments and conversation about it. My instructor said it was his first time riding in one. He taught me that the car could do a lot more than what my experience level could get out of it. The whole experience has given me a different outlook on not getting an M2 yet. I still want it, just by looks alone, but I can wait if it takes another year or two. I'm just going to enjoy my M235i. Hopefully the M2 will be around still, and I'll be an even better driver. Melted rubber on MPSS with debris stuck to it. I've read that it will wear away.
