Generally after 800+ miles it is ok to get it done.

Not many messages recently in this thread. I'm dropping mine off Friday for the 1200 mile svc. & to have the rear brake backing/heat shields replaced. Oil & diff fluid replaced. Is there anything "new" I should know?

I guess I'm not a good customer. I had to give my SA the SIB # for the rear brake backing/heat shields. He called me this morning to say my car wouldn't be done today because they didn't realize the wheel bearings had to come out & replaced. I guess I should've printed the instructions for them etc. Sheesh!

I don't expect my service advisor to know how every repair job is done or keep up with all the SIB numbers.

I picked up my car from the 1200 mile service yesterday. I can assure you there was no rev limiter at 5500 prior to that.

I was in a hurry and my guy said general check, oil change and rear diff fluid change. He then added that they did a computer update to give it a little more power. I notice no difference except my willingness to get on it a bit. And that's fine with me.

I will have coming friday my break-in service. The salesmen promised that's included in the price, so I'm curious what they will say friday...

Mine did the run-in service, included in my 5 years service inclusive contract. However I found out they only changed the oil filter. I asked them why not changing oil, they say no need... Where I live there is only a couple a dealers selling M cars and both of them said they don't change anything except oil filter for the run in service... that and enabling full power.
Which led me to ask BMW directly who told me to ask the service providers... I'm a bit lost...

It states to change the oil and the diff oil right in your owners manual. There is nothing done to increase any power on the M2. They have no idea what they are doing. I would find a new dealer if you can, and if not, just show them the manual.

I could swear I've seen that in the manual as well... but I can't find it anymore XD it's not in the break-in section of it, or maintenance...

"At 1,200 miles/2,000 km
Have drive-in checkup maintenance performed."

This is quite vague...

AFAIK, there are no software updates with the basic break-in service. There was not when I had mine done last year, and my coding was intact afterwards.

Keep in mind though, since then there may be mandatory software updates which may wipe the coding. Best to ask your service advisor beforehand.

Yes u are most likely right. I had the break-service done last Friday and when I got it I thought it did wipe out the code at first when my seat did not move after I started the car at the dealer but all coded worked right after. All is well and no issues.

I'll post in this thread at least. My car had no indicator at 1200 miles. Still indicates service due in 10,000 miles. No indicator whatsoever. I have scheduled the service nonetheless. Also, I ran the sport displays and didn't have any trouble maxing out the HP and torque measures. Don't know what "more power" to expect, but according to the gimmicky display, it puts out the max already. I think "unlocking more power" is a big red herring and nothing is changed in the ECU. Changing the diff oil will not improve performance whatsoever. Seems like more of an inconvenience to me. Will report back with my impressions after the service.

Could this "more power" be related to the overboost ? btw how does that get activated ?

I doubt all the hype about released power and ecu changes after the service. I don't think anything is changed in the ecu during the service other than enabling launch control.

Was just looking through my 1200 mile service invoice again to double check things as my trust level is fairly low after my dealer messed up my rocker panel the other day when performing the service. Then I went back through this thread and saw a few discrepancies with other invoices pertaining to part numbers and quantities. Here is what's listed on mine:

Qty 1 11-42-7-854-445 Set Oil-Filter Elem
Qty 8 83-21-2-365-950 BMW Twinpower Turbo
Qty 3 83-22-2-357-992 SAF-XJ

The filter element and motor oil check out. They used 0W-30 which is fine although I see some invoices with Qty 7 so not sure what the correct amount should be? On the rear diff oil, it appears that there are two types being used. The other part number is 83-22-2-282-583 and has a +FM designation afterward. Also seeing Qty 1 on some invoices as well.

The manual is pretty much useless so was wondering a bit on which is correct here? Anyone else go through this and check?

After all they might have done it properly now that I obtained the detailed papers... I wouldn't know what the reference numbers stand for exactly but the description seems right

Specified rear diff oil for the M2 is supposedly part number 83222365988 which seems harder to find info on while 83222282583 looks to be compatible? Question, is part number 83222357992 compatible and does it contain the FM?

My dealership only listed the oil and filter change on the invoice. I called to question this and after 10 minutes on hold I was told that they did in fact do the diff fluid change. I pushed back on this and they stated that they checked with the tech who did the work. The SA stated that they make mistakes all the time on invoices. Needless to say this did not leave me with a lot of confidence that anything had been done.

I am barely at 0% confidence right now. If it weren't for the warranty I would be doing this shit myself. "Free" service is starting to make me loose sleep and that ain't f'n free! I gotta go back to have them take care of a fuck up already and now I'm sitting here wondering if they put the right damn fluid in my diff.....you know the saying, if you want it done right, then do it yourself !

This would not make me feel comfortable. You are running track days with what possibly could be the original sludge! I am trying to ascertain whether the friction modifiers, or lack thereof, make all three of the diff oils that appear to be being used are interchangeable?
