Service Department ding my door.
So, I took my new M2 in today for the 2000 km breakin tuneup.
After picking up the car, I went to my tint guy for some more work on the car. While there, we found a vertical dent on the passenger door. I know it wasn't there before as i just hand washed the car. It appears that while up on the hoist to do the engine and transmission oil change, they open the door and bang the hoist post. I will be bring back the car tomorrow morning to talk to them. My question is what is an acceptable repair for this? I'm not kean on them taking off the inner door panel and knocking the dent out. All comments and recommendation is appreciated. |

This is why I always have them do a walk around with a checklist that is signed before they take it for service. Can't count how many times over the years it's saved me from unnecessary aggravation.

My dealer has all center post lifts out of the floor... couldn't happen. In fact the other BMW dealership I went to has the same. You sure it was the lift/dealer?

It happens...I get pissed about door dings but only from asshole driver's who don't care about your property and swing their doors out without any concern.
I'm guessing the dealer will take care of it...not that I'd be happy about it |

That's too bad...I hope they take care of it but my experience is that if you don't point it out before leaving the dealership, they don't take responsibility...
Good luck! |

talk to the dealership today.
No question asked. They will take care of it. and if they need to take off the interior panel, they promise to reseal it to factory spec. Hopefully they will be able to remove it. |

You might want to ask them to use a paintless dent removal guy. That's what my dealer did for me on my X1. I would go that route prior to letting anyone touch your car with paint (if they claim its needed). There have been some disastrous experiences with dealerships with regards to painting and dent removal.

It will bring the door to original state without the need for painting or anything. See pictures here http://www.carrossierexpress.com/e-before-after.html |

That sucks! I had a similar experience with my first service on my 135i... a vertical graze in the paint... and I had seen the hoists had a central post at about that location. Luckily mine was only scraped and not dented... so it polished out. But if they have the same type of hoist, it is very easy to see an inattentive mech doing that.
Since then, I always go around my car and take photos before each services... just in case there is a dispute. Then delete them if nothing arises. A pain, but it helps my OCD. |
