Ugly as all hell.

Why does it have a BMW interior?

I feel like in 20 years manufacturers will join forces and we will have one car maker that makes everything from bicycles to super cars. Why are all brands sharing everything?

Interior comparison

Supra vs Z4

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...hots-and-video

Quote:
The car isn’t expected on the market until well into 2018, which means we’ll likely see it arrive as a 2019 model. (It’s possible the debut will take place in late 2017 at the Tokyo auto show.) Being so far out from the market arrival, there are few solid details to report on for what’s lurking within the sheet metal.

We know the new platform features a front-midship layout and a low center of gravity, as evidenced by the very low hood and roof. It’s likely to feature multi-material construction, perhaps even some carbon fiber to shed weight while boosting strength.

The car is expected to be offered with more than one powertrain option, with the range-topper rumored to be a hybrid powertrain combining a twin-turbocharged V-6 with an electric motor or two. The V-6 would power the rear wheels while the electric motors power the front pair, creating a “through-the-road” hybrid setup. Toyota previewed a similar setup in 2013 with its Hybrid-R concept.

The downside is that such a system would likely see the price of the Supra come in at a high level. We've heard it will be priced higher than a Corvette, which starts in the mid-$50k bracket and quickly rises from there. So to offset this Toyota may also offer an entry-level powertrain consisting purely of the twin-turbo V-6 or a turbocharged inline-4.

And to further reduce costs, production of the Toyota sports car along with its BMW counterpart is rumored to be taking place at independent vehicle manufacturer Magna Steyr's plant located in Graz, Austria. Sharing a production facility makes sense considering the low volumes of pricey sports cars.

Personally I think there will be something of a merging of some companies to a point where there are few distinctions between their offerings

That will in time provide an opening for either new manufacturers or one or more existing to again begin offering vehicles that distinguish themselves from the competition and/or satisfy customer demands

The problem currently in part is that companies are trying to sell what they WANT to sell vs what customers want

Assuming that the new Supra will use the BMW drivetrain, what oil do you think Toyota will require ... API/Toyota or a Euro/BMW spec oil?

Will it need API SN or BMW LL14FE+?

Really?! Which lug net torque setting will it use?

Let's worry about if it's light, has any steering feel and is priced right first.

Because it's a joint venture between BMW and Toyota, so maybe on the tester they decided to do a Toyota exterior and a BMW interior.

That isn't surprising since its sharing its chassis with a BMW roadster.

This would seem to put it squarely against the next generation Nissan Z which will probably get the turbocharged V6 engines from the Infiniti Q50/Q60. The Z will have the immediate advantage of offering an open top option from the get-go while we don't know when or if the Supra will.

It is going to be interesting to see where these cars are priced. The Z currently starts at $30k, but they could move it up to $35k-ish when the next generation model debuts. A 400hp+ model could reasonably command a starting price over $40k (as it does today in high end trim, even with only 350hp), but not over $50k, IMHO. If it climbs up into the mid 50k range then you start to beckon Corvette comparisons which, even with over 400hp, probably isn't a good thing. I think that Toyota will have to come in around these price points as well with comparable Supra models in order to compete. Another possibility is for each to offer a four cylinder option which could bring starting prices lower.

Whatever the price will be, it will be way overpriced just like nearly every car on the road today. This market needs a price correction in the worst way possible, but until the banks actually start verifying borrower income and we go through another subprime debacle, I guess those prices just keep going up.

Same, but I know a lot of Toyota fan boys were still hoping they would some how throw in backseats. Personally, I don't care either way.

X2, I think the Toyota will be the better looking of the two. Also in general I like coupe more than convertibles.

On another note I wanted too see how the community the feels about this joint project. Who do y'all think will benefit more for this joint venture?

And on top of that, some countries like Canada get totally reamed on pricing when compared to US pricing. I imported my car from the US and even after paying all the associated shipping costs and duties, ended up with an example that was three years newer, still under warranty, has the newer more powerful engine and with way better options than one I was looking at locally at a higher price.

It's like a balloon animal version of a car. Hopefully it doesn't look so bloated, but then the Mk4 didn't look svelte either.
