I dare someone to say it sounds better than the N55. This thread has existed far too long without this comment, and I demand some controversy.

You demand controversy? There's been nothing but controversy since the M2c was revealed. Every thread is full of controversy.

Yeah, but it seems to be absent in this thread.

So far all I've seen is, "it doesn't sound as bad as I thought."

Give it a chance, there's a lot of disdain for this car that has yet to be exhausted.

Sounds better than m3/m4? It sounds exactly the same. It’s the same motor, it will sound the same. The only difference being that clip was with a mic attached to the rear bumper rather than stationary mic at the side of the road.

Does it sound as good as the N55? Maybe not quite as good. Does it sound so bad you wouldn't want the Competition vs. the 2018? Not even close...

Change that "you" to an "I" and your post works. Otherwise you're applying your preferences to others' buying decisions.

I misspoke.....mostly leaf blower with a touch of 2 stroke YZF 80 (grasping at straws here and breaking balls also). The S55 with all of its great traits just doesn't produce a goosebump inducing sound, no matter the exhaust system implemented. Disclaimer: I've heard many in person to justify my opinion.
Oh noes. Definitely the most important aspect of any vehicle

Exactly. It's like people with the N55 feel some urge to shield themselves from the obviously better car, so they nitpick. Like there will be no other available aftermarket grills or exhaust systems.

Maybe cause they're still deep in their loans? Idk..

Sounds like a v6 to me. They should go back to NA so these things can sing again.

Aftermarket exhaust systems have had limited benefit on the S55 thus far. They don't fix the sound. Of course, the jury's out on this M2 iteration.

You should check out the "Exclusive Bimmerpost M2 CSL Render by Paul-Bracq-BMW" or the M2 CS/L rumors thread. Same people who are whining about the sound, calling it "weed whacker/gas powered leaf blower combo" are already getting excited for the M2 CS/L (which most likely will have S55 as well). I'm sure the CS/L will sound like a Ferrari or maybe they'll do a N55 engine swap lol.

From the CSL render thread:

From the CSL render thread:
Good catch . Allow me to clarify one thing. Just because the car sounds like ass, doesn't mean it won't be great overall. Sound is one aspect of a performance vehicle, albeit an important one. The modifications that the CSL incorporates will certainly negate any sound shortcomings from the S55. Again, this is all subjective opinion so don't get bent out of shape when I compare the engine sound to a landscaping machine.

The OP's clip sounds way better than the first clip that was posted of the M2C. Will have to see it in person for a fair comparison to my MY2017 with standard exhaust. Comparing from audio clips with vastly different recording details is useless.

Video of M2C revs on their instagram story (click the profile bubble). Sounds pretty much identical to M3/4 :
