Get the car YOU want , not the car the dealer wants you to get. If you want an M2 regular then stand up and say it loud and proud. But if you want an M2 comp... let your dealer sell the last M2 to some other fellow that wants it.

Sounds like the car ordered is probably MG anyway

When I came to the dealer, I was actually planning to replace my red m235 with orange m240, and then decided to go with the m2. I ordered it in blue, since it's the most exciting color available, and back in february there was not much solid info on the Comp model, besides speculations.

I agree with your price assessment. I can't understand why so many people are surprised by what's on the M2 Comp, if you look at what it is added it almost mirrors the Comp pkg in the M4 which is $5500 and also didn't come out until later. You get more HP, revised suspension, fancier seats, different wheel option, and optional brakes for about $5500 (10%). If they increase less why the Comp designation? Why not save that for down the road? I'm keeping my LCI, I love this car and I take comfort knowing mine looks better to my eyes.

I don't think you'll regret it. Depends which options you want. Personally I think the Comp is a downgrade in looks, wheels and bumper/LCI rear lights.

The things I do like are the seats, Carbon brace, brakes and color options. The size of the calipers are cool, but if there's no added width to the rotors, it's not something I would pay for, not for a second.

Also, I'm not a huge s55 fan. The S55 leaves something to be desired for me, the sound, power delivery and complexity of the system outweighs the "S designation" people can't get past with the current M2. The biggest thing I like about the S55 is the dual HPFP's, which we can integrate. It's a great engine but I honestly think the OG M2's modified N55 doesn't get enough love, I think it'll gain respect in the future and deserves it.

How reliable has the S55 proven to be? It's a considerably more complex engine.

Before we nailed down an M2 allocation we were looking at a pre-owned M4 and did a ton of reading on this problem, but it's technically a little above my pay grade. But from the number of documented cases, it seems real and legit, and maybe warrants at least a little discussion.

It is mainly a problem for cars dated pre 12/2015 and the majority were pushing big power. BMW implemented a new bedplate after 12/2015 and its seems to have fixed the issue. 99% of the failures fall on early built M3/M4. With that said, I been to many BMWCCA events and HPDE. Never met another M3/M4 owner that actually had the problem. Only known cases are what I have seen on the forums. Even then it is a fraction of a % of S55 powered cars. Heard of more N54 and N55 letting going due to tuning than S55.

Don't get me started on S65 bearings!! Oh the engine tick of death!

I think they are making M2C for MY19 and MY20 up until Oct 2020.

I wonder what is going to be next for the M2, and the 2 series in general. I hope they don't discontinue it.

I doubt it'll be discontinued, it's made a huge spash, and have sold every one they've built.

They can also turn it into transverse mounted engined AWD/FWD econobox like they did with the X1.

I guess the next 2 series is FWD and I assume an AWD option and the M2 who knows. Probably inherits whatever the G series M3 is.

That is precisely what I'm afraid of. If they do that, I'll probably switch to Porsche.

Seeing how the M2 competition looks with the huge front butterfly vents and hemorrhoid like mufflers it’s more reason for me to keep my MG M2. But it would be nuts not to get the newest M2 if you’re in the market and did not have one already. But considering the price increases of the new one and the discounts you can get with the outgoing model.... decisions decisions

Scott26 already said in this old thread that the next 2 series platform can be fwd or rwd and the guys at BMW M were fighting for the M2 to still be rwd.I think it has now been confirmed that it will definitely still be rwd.

I suppose you could always put a strip of body colored vinyl between the grille shapes to defer the "unibrow Kia" look.

So that means that regular 2 series will become FWD based and M2 will stay RWD, meaning they will be completely different cars with completely different platforms?

Stupid move by BMW on so many levels.

In that case perhaps a late model S58 M2 is what I really want!
