Now let’s objectively look at the parts that are different and see how much weight they reduce:
1, Hood:
2, Roof:
3, Fenders:
4, Sound deadening:
5, Seats front:
6, Rear seats delete/basic:

Are you a NITWIT?

I wonder how many guys here who say they really want an M2 never will get one, because they're always waiting for the next, best edition of the M2. In the meantime, they're missing out on the joys of driving an M2 – any M2 – now, and probably forever.

Some of the M2 Comp wannabees here actually have said that instead of buying the perfect M2 Comp ("The only real M2!" "What BMW wanted to build the first time!" "It has real M mirrors and cures all social diseases!"), they may wait for the M2 CS, M2 CSL, M2 GTS or M2 Whatever. Apparently the fun of not owning a BMW - backed by fertilizing multiple dealers with perpetual deposits – is all these NITWITs need!

No,
I
Think
Waiting
Is
Terrific!

For the rest of you real M2 owners, let's shut down our computers and go for a drive!

Not sure about that.

DCT only? No thank you.

M4 GTS is not worth the money. If M2cs will be like the M4 GTS I rather get the M2 Competition.

A lot of drivers here also probably have cars that they enjoy driving and have probably said from the beginning that they really want an M2 CSL/GTS. They’ve probably been waiting for just those cars with dealer deposits specifically for those cars.

This 100%!

I'm on the list for a CS/GTS/CSL. I already have an M4 with a manual that I'll be keeping as well, so the only thing I'm in the market for is a more track-oriented toy. That's also why if they don't end up by making the hardcore M2 I won't be distraught or feel like I've missed out on something because I already have an something amazing.

I'm not on the list until infinity always waiting for the next best thing, I'm waiting for something specifically.

Agreed...unless the M2 CS/GTS was developed on a separate track, like M3 Adjuster has suggested...

I can't help but wonder if that photo is old, the car has the "base" side mirrors and the brakes don't look anything special.

The real question is, did your friend hear it shifting (i.e. DCT or 6MT)?

As we know:
  • this semester: exit N55 M2 ("M2")
  • next semester: enter S55 M2 ("M2 Competition")
In the past there was quite some confusion about the name. Screenshots of some time ago from the internal BMW system show a "CS" reference (more particularly "F87CS" and "M2 CS"). And AFAIK the "M2 Competition" name only started showing up in October 2016 VINs of M2 Competition test mules (leaked in August/September 2017).

Already early 2015 it was rumored that two types of M2 were developed at the same time: the regular M2 and a more spicy/angry sibling with more cues from the BMW GT6 Vision Concept (see the first post of this thread for a couple of quotes).

Further, we recently learned that stricter EU emissions legislation taking force late Summer 2018 are the direct cause of the early exit of the N55 M2:
"MR: Would you have kept the base M2 available for sale, if the WLTP would not have played any role in the decision making process?
Frank van Meel (BMW M boss): Yes, the production of the M2 LCI would not come to an end this summer if the WLTP did not play a role. We would have continued the M2 next to the M2 Competition and both cars would have been built alongside each other at the factory in Leipzig, Germany."

(source: here)
As initial M2 plans seem to have changed over time, this begs the question about the fate of the mysterious 'spicy sibling' (should the rumors of its earlier existence happen to be true):
  • is the M2 Competition a spiced up version of the 'regular M2' ?
  • or is the M2 Competition the 'spicy sibling' (initially labelled "F87CS" and "M2 CS") ?
  • or is the M2 Competition a toned down version (read: less radical in terms of power output and design) of the 'spicy sibling' ?
  • if the "M2 Competition" is unrelated to the 'spicy sibling' (except for also being an F87 M2 breed): can we expect the latter to be released in 2019/2020, eventually under the "CS" name ?
Throwback: below is an excerpt from a post of 2014. True that the "M2 Competition" is still an F87 breed and, hence, no second generation M2, but nevertheless, the M2 Competition enters next semester, and at the same time worldwide (EU/UK/US):

Forget the CS. Could this be the prototype of the all-electric 2022 M2 E, with an extended-range battery pack, undergoing hot-weather testing in the Caribbean?

I own an E84 X1 S-drive28 M sport which is RWD... so I know the answer... my X1 is LIGHTER than the M2C

In the US from the 1M (3296 lbs) to the M2 (3450 lbs - 6MT ) there was a clear weight gain... and now the M2 gets a *second* helping of weight with the S55.
