Although I like the new grill. You know IND will sell a version with painted center.

I still like M2 more for being the lighter car, just thinking M2C only manages 5 sec off nurburgring time I wouldn't expect too good of a review from professional journalists. The reasons I m leaning toward getting M2C is sunset orange😆, slight price increase & Factory installed cf parts. And 2 out of 3 r still in question

7:52 was the official Nurburging time for M4 advertised by BMW. Do you really believe that BMW would advertise M2C any faster than that and risk cannibalizing M4 sales even more? BMW of course will release a lap time that will strategically position M2C between base M2 and base M4. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised when car magazines such as Sport Auto come up with lap times that are not only better than BMW's advertised numbers but also base M3/M4 lap times.

I guess it's already passed by as something I notice on the car, but I don't think I care that much now. I might care more in the flesh, but that won't come for a while.

But yes, in the event that it's just too much, I am sure there will be a "fix" available.

good point sir, do hope that's the case as i secretly hope it is bigger improvement over normal M2

LCI M2 or M2 Comp????

Hey guys,

Been trying to do some research. My lease on my 335 is almost up and I'm in the market for an M car finally, dream come true. Been wanting an M car my entire life and I'm finally in a position to afford one comfortably.

I've debated the M3, M4, M2, and the new M2 Comp.

They all have their negatives and positives, but I'm looking to keep this car actually in the long run.

The M3 is 1-2 years away from a replacement model right? The G series comes out this year, and TBH while a great looking car I feel it's starting to look a bit dated

The M4 is a bit bulky for me, I want something nimble.

So that brings me to the M2.. The 2018 LCI has the original motor the pre-LCI did right? So only the M2 Comp comes w/ the regular M3/M4 engine?

Feel like getting the car is going to be a challenge as well and I can get a much better deal on a M2 LCI than the comp model.. What are your guys thoughts?

Well I guess what do you want? No reviews of the m2c but

*it appears to be heavier
*have the full m4 engine but detuned with software *some suspension changes for better or worse
*buttons to configure the car like the m4 does rather than just modes
*has a weird silver white and bad orange paint option but loses the mineral gray option
*possibility of Port install of new m performance parts
*slightly lower
*most say the m2c doesn't sound as good as n55 m2 from the audio we have
*m4 seats with 2 series leather
*exterior changes for bumper and mirrors
*speculation it will devalue n55 m2 a lot

seems like the reasons to have the n55 LCI over the m2c is sound, weight, negotiate a discount, if you prefer the front bumper of the older model, mineral gray, and it can be bought today rather than hard to find and marked up in September.

Assuming the m2c drives as well or better than the m2 really the question is do you want the S55 engine and m buttons? or n55 sound and lighter weight?

This nails it really well. And he's right about the speculation concerning the effect the M2C will have on M2 depreciation. To build on that thought...whereas, according to early info, the base prices of the two cars may not be more than a couple of thousand apart (this is still unconfirmed for the US market), I don't see most M2C's rolling out of dealers without options being added. I expect many buyers will gladly be adding the upgraded sport seats, MPE exhaust, maybe the upgraded brakes, and other newly-added port-installed CF goodies. By the time these things are added, the actual out-the-door prices of the average 2018 M2 vs. the average 2019 M2C may be quite a bit further apart. Once the true purchase price gap is understood, the current car's depreciation curve may not be as severe as people anticipate when you look at real-world entry cost of an M2 vs. M2C.

As a side note, there's been a ton of talk about the M2C hammering down values of the M2, and that 3-5 years down the road the former will be the overwhelming choice vs. the latter. To my mind, I'm out on a limb with a different theory. I think the real value conversation won't end up being M2 vs. M2C, but rather UN-tuned M2/M2C vs. tuned M2/M2C. Yes, the M2C may still be worth more, but as pointed out above it will also cost more, more than the base price gap indicates. But that's not the real battle. The cars that will hold value fairly well will be examples of BOTH the N55 & S55 versions that secondary market buyers aren't afraid of. Times have changed, we're in the YouTube era now, and everyone has seen Alex Choi literally destroy his M2 repeatedly on video. Any version of an M2 that has not been thrashed will be desirable. This is just a thought I keep having - it may end up being completely wrong. But I think the forum may lead one to overestimate the % of buyers who are tracking these cars, which overestimates the % of buyers who need the S55's extra HP and cooling ability, and underestimates the % of buyers who just want an M2 and are perfectly happy with either a 0-60 of 4.5 seconds or 0-60 of 4.3 seconds but are instead prioritizing usage history. On top of usage history, these same non-racing buyers may also choose not based on engine, but rather appearance. As akkando pointed out, the two fronts do look different and each version may end up with its own following.

One of the thing that I'm least happy about with the M2 is lack of colors. I happen to like bright colors - my current m235i is red, and I was ready to order orange m240i. I went with blue on the M2, but I'm not to crazy about it. Would love it in red or orange.

Any advice is much appreciated.
You will not be disappointed. True m2 CS looks different, had the S55...but most people aren't tracking, Day to day driving wont be affected much. I think another way to look at it ... keep the current model, upgrade the tune with dinan and I take/exhaust, slap on ohlins , and sit happy and wait for the next generation to come out. :0)

Every year there's an upgrade minor or major (not just cars), if you live life second guessing and wondering what was the better deal than that's a life of worrying...

This forum will always be geared to new models. If price is no object and you really don't care about the strengths/weaknesses N55 vs S55, just wait for the M2C. If you need the car now, you don't really have a choice. If you want to get more bang for your buck, go with a discounted base M2.

I'm in a very nice part of Brooklyn, and don't really go to bad neighborhoods, so no worries here.

Something I haven't seen taken into account by speculators.
Once the M2 Competition is officially released (Configurator available on web site), and there is finally one available to see at a local dealer, how long might one have to wait to get one especially if they are not already on a waiting list?
I originally ordered a 2016 in April 2016 and 5 months later took delivery on what was now a 2017 model.
BTW, I don't track the car and have no plans on replacing it with a Competition.
I've seen forum comments from other countries that say they had to wait more than a year.

From an M2 LCI owner (Feb 2018 pickup) I’d wait and get the Competition.

It is the car the M2 should have been from the beginning but for business or marketing decisions they could t apparently.

Even if they couldn’t fit the S55 at the get go, no excuse for not putting in M3/M4 seats, mirrors, and the M1/M2 buttons and preferences settings.

I feel like this is a dumb reason, but the M buttons on the Comp are probably my biggest discriminator making me lean that way (I don't track, so for street driving, the N55 is plenty powerful, especially with a DP and maybe a Dinan tune), plus I like the front end and sound of the N55 better.
But M buttons...

I still can't get over that front-end... That alone would make me jump to Porsche Still reserving judgement to seeing it in person.

If anyone was on the fence and can get the M2C I think it would be silly not to unless you need a car today and you can't get the M2C until 2019.
