The sport cup2s might shave a second on such a short course. It's the crazy mods and driver skill that contributed to the utter raping of this track.

But you didn't make a point. Just repeated an overused sentiment... which I would love if BMW acted on for nostalgic reasons only. If the M2 (aka, today's M3 of old) had the fit and finish of the current F80/82/83's, I know what I'd be driving.

I’d buy a Radical plus an X5M to tow it. New 911 GT3 stick. McLaren 570S. AMG GTR. Viper ACR with X5 tow truck. Upcoming Corvette ZR1. Caterham 620 or Supercharged Atom, with X5M tow truck. Camaro ZL1 1LE with a 911 daily driver. M4 GT4 (with some lame pickup truck for towing). Ok the last one is a stretch, I doubt I could get one if I’m not actually racing it. Honestly I see the value of this car as a novelty item, as in hey look what I got, it’s as fast as yours but it’s a cute little BMW. Beyond that aspect, I think many of the cars mentioned above are better driving, better looking, more special and factory-engineered with warranties etc. For me in particular, the GT3 or the GTR would be no-brainers.

I understand. I do track and driftdays and think the CSR would suit me rather well, watching those videos, just like the 620R. It's what car suits you best isn't it? Balance, FR layout , lsd that kind of stuff. I chose 991 GT2RS WP because just impressive and faster than anything else, 488 because competent Ferrari and new, 812, because FR V12. I don't want stuff like AMG, Vipers , Camaros and Corvettes, I just like them(off course) but that's all. Well AMG I'd buy I guess. Way too big footprints (just like 812 but hey Ferrari) McLaren also great stuff. Period. But I like Ferrari better. (Except for F1/GTR/LM off course priceless) But still, for that pricetag M2CSR is unbeatable( except for 620R) and you don't drive a Radical or Atom as a daily.... Lookswise (except for the rear wing) I think M2CSR looks better than 80% of the cars you mentioned lol but that's imo. And off course I think a one off M2CSR is more special and definitely racelike engineered(just like Caterham, Ariel etc) than most on your carlist.... Only the AMG is the better LOOKING car.... But each to their own. Thanks for your opinion and feedback! Cheers Robin Last edited by Robin_NL; 11-21-2017 at 02:51 AM.. |

Footprint, RWD, LSD etc. I respect that everyone’s choices can be different and just as valid. I have to say I followed (well tried to) a well driven Viper ACR on track and it blew my mind. Also got a passenger ride in a Camaro ZL1 and it blew my mind. If my précis for the car didn’t include occasionally carrying 3-4 kids to/from various sport activities, I’d reconsider my Euro allegiance.

I've never been a real (US)muscle car fan in the first place.....though I'm starting to like them. I want nimbleness/agility (sort of)... I forgot the new TVR 5.0 V8 stick and the new Aston Vantage presented today. But they (incl GT3 stick) are nowwhere near as fast as this M2 CSR. It's just this: M2 is just BMW's best base atm to make a very fast daily/trackcar because of its wheelbase/dimensions/footprint. Hence this M2 CSR. Can't help it. S55 engine bring it on, with an Akra or something like that. Cheers Robin |

The limitations of the rear engine layout is very well understood by Porsche as their latest RSR race cars now have a mid-engine layout and I wonder if this will trickle down to the future production 911's. Some people think that the factory cars are the best but don't seem to understand that factory models have limitations imposed by budgets, profitability, marketing, supplier constraints etc that the tuners don't have. Tuners also can approach how to increase performance of a model in a different angle. Lightweight performance here were fanatical on weight reduction (the motto of Colin Chapman and Gordon Murray amongst others) as much as giving the car more power... One can argue that this is a closer car to the M3 CSL than the M4 GTS. I hope BMW with their CSL's series will do the right thing and significantly lower the weight of their halo cars...

Exactly. A few days ago in another thread where the (any) 911 was mentioned by some as 8th Wonder (vs M2) I mentioned the 2017 mid engined '17 RSR. Still GT3/RS/GT2RS bring them on. Awesome beasts. The rest is good but marketing comes into play and those prices.... I'd rather go for a nice Cayman S /GTS instead. Or a nicely tuned M2 for that matter. Cheers Robin |

New 718 gt4/spyder is going to be awesome with reduced capacity gt3 engine. 9000 rpm NA motor and all the balance you could ask for? Don't need a sledge hammer when you have this sharp a tool
