M2 CSL

Just wondering if the M2 waitlist is too long, would it be better to just wait for the CSL version?

Where did this CSL rumour start? I keep seeing it mentioned as if it's a sure thing, was there a BMW insider quoted or something? (genuinely curious)

Ditto that. I keep seeing the M2 CSL mentioned around this forum like its production is a foregone conclusion yet I've seen zero evidence of that being the case.

Someone please enlighten me!

Rumors around here have a funny way of materializing. I'm not saying it's 100% but I'd be more surprised if it did not happen than if it did.

Scott has been a reliable source of insider info:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1167857

Jason is a mod:
http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1104490

Lastly, there are guys on the German forums who are seeing first hand, an M2 with the S55 motor in it. Not saying this is what the CSL will be powered by. But shows there is interest in a more "hotted up" M2. Also, while the M2 seems to tick a lot of the boxes, it also leave a bit more to be desired. I am saying this as someone who intends to purchase the M2. Basic seats, a motor with parts-bin construction aside from the closed or open deck, no adaptive suspension, etc. The list goes on. M2 will be sweet, no doubt. But hardcore models are desired and there is a market (Porsche GT4).

Being that the M2 is already sold out, I think BMW has confidence in the market demand for a "high level" M2. M2 CSL I can only imagine how pure of an M car it will be when it's based on a already great platform.

The price difference between the current M2 any CSL car will, IMO, be huge. In which case, the market will be totally different. That is to say, the financial position of the M2 buyer will be a lot different than than the financial ability of the CSL buyer. For that reason, a successful M2 product doesn't automatically translate to a successful CSL product. I also believe the CSL car will be on a larger platform first. A more profitable platform. Say, like the M3/M4 platform.
Again, IMO.
By the way, the M2 is not already sold out. I guess you're extrapolating your conclusion from forum excitement and hype.

Agreed.

Besides, I love coming out of the shadows for an M2 CSL thread!

We should start a "How should the M2 CSL be equipped" thread, so Munich can take notes and deliver.

For starters, unleash the engineers and hang the bean counters.

Good things will certainly follow!

Not to be too nit picky about all this; but, "sold" means (at least it used to) money has changed hands, ownership has transferred. With respect to the M2, that hasn't happened - anywhere. April 16th is when that starts, I think.

No it's relative to the factory making exchange to the importer then to the dealer.

Not our hands.

When you see financials from car companies their sales figures are not relative to our purchase but to importer or dealers. They could have sold/sent 100 cars to BMW NA and have 30 unsold cars on dealer lots but the 100 is recorded as sold.

It's like when you buy Bayer aspirin from CVS. Bayer doesn't record your sale at CVS. They record the purchase CVS made for their inventory.

This is how some markets are sold out for this year. BMW can only fulfill what the factory can produce or what they expected to produce based on market analysis, or whatever.

I "ordered" an M2 CSL back in whenever it was that I specced the M2. It was all very tongue in cheek but I did sign a BMW order form. Agreed it was for a car that didn't exist !
