My 1M didn't have it and I found the regular seats to be supportive enough.

I have the same sport seats as the M2 with no lumbar. It allows me to really sit deep in the seat with the adjustable side bolsters keeping me in place. If you don't have lower back problems, save yourself $500.

The sport seats may not be the best looking, but they are really comfortable and supportive. I just wish they had more shoulder bolstering like the M3/4 seats.

My 135i didn't have it, and nearly drove me to sell the car.
Very much a personal preference, condition of lower back.

I had the same seats (but cloth) in my 328i and I did not have the lumbar support and personally did not miss it that much except for very long drives where it would have been really nice to have.

When I specced my M2 I really did not want to miss out on that option as I am planning some road trips.

Should be standard equipment on all BMW IMO.

So, for me it is only missed when driving for several hours.

I've never found it that essential TBH. What that says about my back and lumbar region I don't know!

I really like it, but I have chronic lower back pain.

Can you get the manual seats there?

I have a fused back, won't buy any car without lumbar. BMW makes an exceptional seat and with excellent lumbar support. The support moves up down in and out unlike most cars that just go in or out. Didn't fully appreciate my E90 seat until we bought an Accord for my wife, Honda makes crappy seats.
