Fold down rear seats/ pass through

I am close to putting an order in for an m2. I am excited about the car. Apparently the U.S. spec car does not have fold down rear seats or a pass through for long items. Please correct me if I am wrong. I had an e36 m3 which I loved but it had fixed rear seats. It was an inconvenience. I am a skier and biker. I guess I could get a seasucker rack or something like that. A rear hitch rack might work but I don't think I would install it myself.

That's a bummer, if true. I swear I saw pictures of folded rear seats, but maybe that was a Euro model. Either way, I'm a biker, as well, but not worried because BMW has nice bolt mounts for a roof rack. This is the ideal setup, in my opinion. Full use of the interior, no wear and tear from moving the bike in and out and since the car has a bolt mount you won't have to mess with the window sill bike mounts resting on the paint.

The Euro cars have a folding rear seat. Considering how tight BMW is keeping production, I would be surprised if they used different rear seats for the US. At worst they would use the 60/40 split that the M235i gets for the US market, but a non-folding rear seat which isn't even available on the standard 2 series would mean custom rear seats JUST for the US market M2s. Seems a stretch.

I agree. I use my 1M for Lowe's trips all the time. How can we find out?

I don't see folding seats or the pass through on the list but I see something called the storage package, not sure what that is.

60/40 is standard. Just take a VIN from this list and see if it lists option 465, if it does it includes the 40/20/40 split and trough-loading-armrest-system-thingy otherwise you are stuck with the standard 60/40 split without an armrest/through-loading-system.

No folding seats would definitely be a huge pain in the ass. How would you even transport your off season wheels and tires to swap, let alone all the other times they're of use.

No biggie for me as this is my fun car. I have a Toyota 4Runner 4x4 to do all the hauling.

The M2 will be purely a fun car for me. I won't be going to Home Depot with it and picking up lumber.

I hope you are correct. I believe my order has just been placed.

If you guys look carefully at this youtube video - you see Carlos Lago go inside this M3 that was at the Detroit auto show. You will see the rear seats are folded Down! Go to 2:20 Marker

I don't know if that is any clue but lets pray for the best.

Awesome. Thanks for finding that. Hard to tell if it's 60/40 or 40/20/40. Either way that is great news.

That was the 40/20/40 split with arm rest.

Okay new question. what is the difference?

UPDATE: I think I know what it is now.

If that's the case, then I think it's solved that the M2 will have some type of foldable reat seats in the USA.

Thanks,
Tom

Option 465 - Split-folding rear seats
The through-loading system is characterised by its rear seat backrest that can be divided in a 40:20:40 ratio for enhanced transport options, as well as more individualised seating and storage configurations. The right seat segment, as well as the smaller centre one, can be folded down individually, and the left seat segment can be folded together with the centre one. This allows the vehicle to offer an extremely high level of flexibility during packing and transporting. For example, two passengers can be seated comfortably in the rear, while long objects such as ski and snowboard bags can be transported at the same time. These are available in suitable sizes from Original BMW Accessories. The self-supported rear centre armrest features two cup holders. Items can be easily secured on the two additional fastening points in the luggage compartment.
Benefits at a glance:
- high level of flexibility when transporting people and goods
- provides space for two rear passengers and long objects such as ski and snowboard bags
- safe transport thanks to additional fastening points in the luggage compartment
