M2 test drive missed :(

As I grew up in Bavaria and almost spend my whole life here I have a bunch of friends who work for BMW or a bunch of friends who have a bunch of friends who work for BMW.

Yesterday a friend of mine posted a picture on FB with a M2.

I texted him and he told me that he and his friend (works for BMW) have a M2 (Werkstestwagen) for a few days. It is one of those (mineral grey) who was posted here before (according to the number plate). He sent me a bunch of pics, but I cannot share them, sorry guys.

What I want to share with you is their experience on the autobahn. (He owns a 997 Carrera).

It's way more aggressive than his Porsche with lots of power. He said "it drives like a mean cannonball". He finds it too aggressive for his taste which is a good thing for me. The sound was awesome and the rev matching pretty nice (they had the manual). It still pullls very strong while accelerating from 210km/h to 250km/h (around 130mph - 160mph)

And now the worst thing:

They wanted to pick me up for a ride today but I'm in Düsseldorf for a week.

Wow, I feel for you
At the same time the impressions from your friend makes me want to have my M2 delivered yesterday
The straight line speed seems good enough

Can´t wait to see all the professioanal reviews coming out in February.

Thanks for sharing your missed opportunity. We will have plenty of reviews in the weeks to come until we receive our own cars!

Fantastic !

It makes me think BMW may have downplayed the M2's power so as to avoid stepping on the F80/82's toes. Can't wait to see what they they make on the dyno.

Me too !!

As always the numbers will be underrated, I wouldn`t be surprised if the M2 makes somewhere about 400 horses.

1M 340 HP, Dyno 370-375 HP average
M3-4 430 HP, Dyno 470 HP (?) I`m not sure about this one, but far more than 430

M2 370 HP........Dyno ??

When the official "370hp" was leaked last year, some were surprised, as initially a 380 to 385hp figure rumor floated.

I wonder if a simple tune will push the car over 400hp?

Too bad the exterior colors aren't configurable as I would have otherwise considered it. I know that color isn't everything but I gotta get the Fire Orange obsession out of my system...

Good luck with your order and looking forward to reading about your driving impressions and seeing some well-executed donuts!

If you want a soft car you don't buy an M!

"A good DD" for the majority of drivers would be a terrible M car for enthusiasts.

It's all relative. I took a 1M for a spin and it seemed fine. I only spent 15 minutes in it though.

Is it fair to assume that ///M cars are, let`s say, about 10% underrated?

It is an well educated guess based on 1M and M3-4 dyno ratings (FWIW off course)

That would predict around 400HP for the M2

But maybe I`m to optimistic?

Well, I did it in less than 10 minutes......

Came from the E92 M3, test drove the 1M, the difference in feel was indescribable, the rest is history......

1M: ordered with zero minutes test drive + never seen the car in the flesh. I trusted that the folks at BMW M had done their homework properly (and they delivered).

M2: idem.
