Daily + track + rain + snow. Have used 2 M3's in the winter here in West Michigan. With proper tires and rims I have never had a problem.

3 1/2 season daily driver for me. At this point, I'm planning on getting a POS for snow days, rather than hunting down another set of wheels and 19" snow tires.

It's also going to be my auto-x car. I'll track it at least once, but it won't be my go-to for that, as I have a more suitable weapon (i.e. cheaper, with a full cage).

If I can get myself an M2 convertible it'll be used 7 months of the year for driving from France to Switzerland every day to the office, my 330d will be used for winter and rainy days, and the Lotus Elise SC for sunny weekends ! All mountain driving yippee !!! And no husband to spoil the fun or tell me what cars I can and cannot buy. LOLLLLL

I have a question for those who use this as a Track Car and DD Car.

Based on past experience:
Do you see any negative effects from using it at the Track? How often do you track your car (or have you in the past).

I've tracked a car before and maybe because i'm worried - but I would like to start so i'm trying to understand this.

Cars that are driven on the track are maintained to a higher standard than cars driven exclusively on the street. They will require more frequent fluid changes and will be inspected for problems more often.

There is really no negative effect from driving it on the track. Driving on the track is safer than driving on the street. No one is chatting on the phone or texting on the track. Rock chips, crashes, etc happen on both the track and the street.

You will wear out tires and brake pads more frequently, so picking up a spare set of each for the track is a wise decision.

You should be just a bit concerned about rock chips, as the guy in front of you may put a wheel or two off, and that can kick up some crud. It's nothing liberal application of blue painter's tape (sometimes referred to as "wanker tape" by racers) can't ameliorate. Or, don't follow other people too closely.

An additional note about tire wear: Most BMWs, even M cars, don't have enough front camber for track work, consequently the outside shoulders of your front tires will get chewed up. If you do enough track sessions, it's worth your time to address that with camber plates.

CSB: I was at COTA a couple of years ago when BMW was doing the press intro for the M6 GC. They had pallet after pallet of tires in the garage, and it looked like the majority of them were front tires. Riding in the cars, it was obvious the left front was taking a serious beating through turn 2, and well as the two "horseshoes" after the back straight.

I've tracked every car I've owned in the last 20 years (OK, except for the wife's X1), and it's a hoot.

Do I miss the word "not" ?

Agree fully, after I sold the 1M I had the Cayman GTS as DD, but driving it everyday makes it less special, the Porsche as 2nd car anytime !

I have no doubt lots of M2's are going to be used (exclusively?) as DD, similar to the majority of P-cars, especially when daily driving means "being seen in it" (city drive, 120kmh limited highway, office parking etc). I'm more curious how many of the "more agile, nimble, smaller, lighter, awakening, driver focused, etc." M2's will see regular track days and being driven at least close to their true potential (still to be determined - soon, we all hope...)

Don't worry about rock chips, bumpers are wear items.
