Get the Awron display over the P3! Awron is high speed CANBUS but P3 is only OBD

I asked because the manual implies that this can be displayed. At least in previous cars there was a temp gage.
I've had many BMW's (this is one is number 11), and as time goes on there is less and less info available to the driver. BMW should really reconsider this. My wife has a new FORD Edge and from a display and interaction perspective the Microsoft SYNC has all other beat hands down. BMW should really talk to MS about this.... |

You realize the OBD port is fed by the canbus and is just as fast.

Is yours a MY2016 with the old iDrive? Sadly, my 10 days with my M2 before it went into hibernation did not give me time to form an impression of the iDrive 5.0 |

I assume so, when the needle reaches the middle my gauge reads between 200-215F depending on driving conditions and temperatures. My oil temps in my Golf R were around 225F so I assume that is optimum temps for the M2.

My understanding having played with many MINI/BMWs over the years there is a LOT of information you can only get from CAN you cannot get from OBD. That is not say this is true for all cars/makes but is true for MINI/BMW. If all you want is oil temp then either gauge will do. My money went into the Awron. Oil Temp
Oil temp is what is important. If you can't get an oil temp reading, oil takes approximately 15 minutes of normal driving to time to come up to temp. This is based on 45 years of experience of driving a variety of cars with both oil and water temp gauges. Oil temp takes forever, but it is what is important. This contradicts the OK indication, and I am not questioning BMW's engineering wisdom, but I will always wait the 15 min. minimum before redlining the engine. My current BMW only has an oil temp gauge.
