Grabby Brakes

Was wondering if anyone experienced "grabby" brakes when you come to a stop. Try as I might I find it difficult to gradually come to a stop without it jerking or grabbing at full stop. Usually it's the passengers that complain about the jerk at the full stop. Is this normal?

Oem pads? Or optional MPerf pads? Or aftermarket?

Optional or aftermarket pads with higher torque bite a lot harder when up to temp

Also, if you are used to a car with a squishier brake pedal, it takes a bit of adjustment to modulate

Currently using OEM brake pads. Trying to modulate brake pedal to stop the car without jerking at full stop is very challenging. Didn't have that issue with my Audi S4 although squealing like stuck pig was the biggest annoyance in that car.

Did you bed-in your pads? I have Pagid RSL29 and RSL19 right now only driven with OEM pads for about 3,000 km but I remember they did not jerk at all after pads bedding-in.

When you say bedding. Do you mean going fast and slamming on the brakes and doing this over a period of time?

Yes, I've done that. Odo reads about $12k km.

Hmm... That is weird... I recall myself not experience jerking stop. And I have no passenger for most of the time. Maybe I am not much sensitive but I figure that they stop as smooth as F80 M3 does.

Does it make any nose? Sorry for all questions.
Does it happen all the time or only when raining? (when brakes are wet?)

I personally believe that I did not have such experience if it is just your M2 that has such problem not in general, then I will take a guess about your rotor.

Try to run a spirit driving and stop full breaking 60-0 few times and see if this makes any difference. Usually this can happen by excess pad material deposit into the disc unevenly. Or you can take it to local shop to clean up the brake system.

I don't find the brakes grabby at all.

I would not recommend bedding factory pads. They are designed to bed under normal driving.

Maybe you can work on your braking technique, given this is a very important driving skill. Relax your toes as you complete braking.

Only thing I can think of is if you're coming from an auto to manual/DCT you'll need to learn again how to stop smoothly since you're basically coasting without power when you're at those speeds - manual you're clutched in/neutral and for DCT I believe it disengages the clutches until you press on the gas again, although I don't drive a DCT so someone else will need to confirm when it disengages.

I do drive a DCT. Maybe it is my braking technique? How would one smoothly brake with the DCT without brakes grabbing or jerking at full stop?

I came from a non-performance car and felt the exact same way about my M2 in that it was super grabby and hard to achieve a smooth stop. I think its normal and just need time to get used to the new level of bite.

Yeah, you'll have to learn how to very smoothly let off the brakes, it took me a month or two.

Try progressing into braking, gradually increasing pressure (or letting off, depending on the situation).

Mine does that. Especially when youre at low speeds like creeping into the garage. It's done it with both the stock pads and the RS29's I have on now.

irritating but normal, I think.

650i--Akebono EUR918 Front Ceramic Brake Pads

Don't know if they will work for you, but my 2009 650i was changed from OEM to Akebono EUR918 Front Ceramic Brake Pads and now stops are smooth as silk.
