Another interesting thing - current M2 pulls over 1.1g on every corner on the Nurburgring.
Interesting.

This might also explain the comment by a German source on 2erTalk claiming that the M2 featuring an S55 engine is already completed since quite some time:
"The S55 is already a long time inside the F87!
It's lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife already for more than a year!"
"Den S55 gibt es schon lange im f87!
Der dreht schon über ein Jahr auf der NOS seine Runden!"

(source: here)
"The car as such [M2 powered by an S55 engine] is already ready since a long time"
"das auto an sich ist schon lange fertig"
(source: here)
Earlier he quoted that the M2 featuring an S55 engine turned out to be "over 8 seconds faster than an M4" on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (which would mean a 07:43 to 07:44 lap time):
"The M2 sporting the S55 was more than 8 seconds faster than the M4 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife!"
"der m2 mit s55 war auf der nos über 8 sekunden schneller als der m4!"
(source: here)
So what can we conclude, if all the above is accurate:
  • BMW M started developing the M2 by squeezing the S55 into an M235i body;
  • as that little monster got way too deep into (or even beyond) the M3/M4 comfort zone, a 'softer' N55 version was added: the M2 base version;
  • the S55 version is kept under wraps for MY2018 and likely baptized "M2 CS".
As commented earlier on (see the first post of this thread), Scott26 repeatedly hinted to the existence of both an M2 base version + a more aggressive M2 'sibling'.

Ah, let's dig up this post again in the future and check whether it was spot-on or a miss.

Any ideas/guess how much more a S55 engine costs over a N55 ?

I don't think it's too much a case of how much it costs as probably there isn't a lot in it,more likely how much they think they're be able to squeeze out of the enthusiast fraternity and no doubt the bean counters in Munich will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect.

Actually I think it's time to start digging up those threads with the " M235 racing update " last year.

I have absolutely no doubt that they have been Testing in plain sight..... And that the car that was assumed to be a 235 racing update that had the tacked on body panels is the mule.

Probably just need to go back to the videos and listen for farting

See that's the thing. I'm not sure I would want to give up the better sound with more than enough power for the S55. I guess we will have to wait and see. Maybe they can make it sound as good as the M2.

I agree with you. I could care less about an S55 being in the CS(L). I haven't felt a need to add power to the 1M and I wouldn't need to do the same to an M2.

What I do want , is a lot less weight to carry around and a suspension setup that can be adjusted from street to race either by manual adjustment ,or EDC.

As far as the sound of the motors I would prefer the n55b30t0 to the S55 however if there is an S55 then hopefully the software is turned for overrun like the n55. Either way I expect an s55 in this model to sound more like the m4 GTS anyway

Sound is a moot point because we have no idea how one engine will sound in a different platfor. For example, the s54 in the Z4M sounds a million times better than in the E46 M3 in my opinion.

I don't think the M2 needs much more power. I think they went a little overboard with the M3/4 and ended up with a car that is pretty snappy. However, there's no arguing that the S55 is the superior engine, even if BMW seems to have blurred the lines of what an S and N engine should be called these days. The twin turbos help with the response, and top end, not to mention the cooling system in the S55 makes it surprisingly one of the most track ready engines BMW has made.

I'm def with M3 Adjuster that I'd prefer the M2 to go on a much needed diet for the CS version, but the S55 is still very important. And so will the price

Wouldn't pretty much be a production version of this?

Manufacturers always give their suppliers targets so they can adjust production of the parts they are making for them. To suggest that the target of 16,000 in an indication that the car is limited production and that there is a special version being designed is a huge leap based on the available data.

I'm sorry, I don't follow what you are saying. Could you explain? I want to ensure I'm drawing e correct conclusion from what you have written. Thanks

The M4 CS marks the official start of restarting the CS brand.

The description of the m4 CS reads like what I am looking for. I'd like to see CCB as an option, and not standard on the M2 (not implying that it is standard on the M4 CS)

60 units, spain only? Is it some sort of pre-release?

Will be very disappointing if the M2 CS gets such a limited release in a single country.

You can just make your M2 a CS by getting a flash tune, Down pipes, and a Pure turbo. Shit it'd be more fun.

Can you please point us to what you've seen. I decided not to get an M2 because it's impossible to get one before next year. If the new CS/CSL is not that much more expensive, I will put a deposit down tomorrow.
