rev matching

want to get a manual m2, but the auto rev matching "feature" kind of worries me. does it make the car too easy to drive like shifting in a video game? seems like it would take away some of the pleasure and satisfaction in shifting.

I'd love to turn it off but I'd still get the 6MT if I had to do it over again - you still get to row gears

You can turn it off with an app or esys coding.

It’s not as annoying as people make it out to be.

I just picked one up and wondered whether this function would annoy me. I'd just started learning to rev match in my previous car and was enjoying the challenge. But, since I've got it, it's not really bothered me and it's not as intrusive as I thought it would be. Maybe I'll get annoyed with it further down the line, who knows.
I wish I could turn it off though, I'm not sure I'm keen on big throttle blips as I'm pulling into car parks etc while calmly driving round town.

It's awesome, I love it .
In Comfort rev-matching is less aggressive which is fine for around town driving.
In Sport it's very pronounced and together with the cracks & pops very much adds to the experience without too much of a hassle.

If you properly rev-match yourself while shifting, it doesn't come on that often.

In a list of things I find annoying about this car, Rev-Matching is not towards the top of the list.

Same. It actually makes the car more fun to drive in my opinion.

I love auto rev-matching. I don't care what the car reviewers say... I cannot heal-toe that well, so having it makes me a far better driver. I could see how it would take away from the "fun" on the track (lowers the skill gap), but whatever, it's still more engaging than paddles.

Also, besides making you a better driver, I'd assume it ends up saving the drivetrain from the wear and tear that poor rev-matching would cause when down shifting.

Totally agree. I daily my car and drive an hour to and from work everyday in sometimes heavy traffic. Its nice having the feature so that I don't need to think about rev matching when downshifting in bumper to bumper traffic.

I have had the option to code out the auto rev-match but have chosen not to simply because of the convenience. When I want downshift myself or am on track I just turn traction control off so I can do it all myself.

The one complaint I do have is that there is no way to turn off auto rev-matching without turning off traction control. I wish there was a button similar to 370z's where you can simply press a button and turn it off.

I thought I’d be annoyed by it as well, but it’s pretty awesome. On the track it lets you focus on braking and your driving line. When you want to put on your “manly” pants and heal toe it you can, albeit without traction control, but hey that’s the authentic way to do it anyway.

If I had a complaint about the manual, it would be that it’s harder to heal toe than I expected. I wind up having to give it more blip than I think I need and it’s hard for me to get right. I think some of it has to do with the turbo engine throttle response not being linear.

Anyone without rev-matching ever successfully coded it in? I know all manual M2s have it but outside of that.

I have a 01/16 built 235i, so I might need a software update first. The clutch pedal sensor is the same part number for both cars, so I'm thinking it's just software..

Hearing all you guys brag about how seamless it operates is making me jelly..

The M2 is my 4th manual car, I was also concerned about the fun fact before, since I was doing heel & toe on the track myself for so many years, but once I get used to the auto rev-match features, I am totally fall in love!!

But sometimes I would still turned off everything on the street and do it manually (Don't want my heel and toe technique fade off) but on the track, I would keep this features on all the time. One of the reason because I like how the sport+ mode gave me a more aggressive and sensitive throttle response, also you can only focus on your braking and racing line.

So I don't think this features killed my mood for having fun on the track, and surely I had way more fun with this auto rev-match manual than driving my previous Z4 35is with DCT on the track as well.

Lots of good comments here - as others have said, it'd be nice if it had a simple on/off button but if you wanna blip it yourself, just go ahead and do it and you'll likely not notice it has the auto-blip feature on - I did this the first two days of my ED trip cz I'd been programmed to do so for 26 years.

That said, I do like it, and I have a trusty Miata to heel/toe in, which has perfect pedal spacing even for size-12 feet.

You need the proper sensors in the transmission too, which I don't know if you'd have... That's part of how it knows how much to rev / what gear you are changing to.

Oh, I didn't think of that but it makes sense.

Thanks! I am going to do some more research. But by simple fact that no one in 2er forum has tackle this yet, leads me to believe that it's not easily retrofittable..

I love it! But if you don't, simply put it in sport plus, and it goes away.
