Executive Package
Hey there, folks.
Curious: Is the Executive Package really worth it? Honestly, I just want the camera and PDC sensors as my garage is a bit tight and the last thing I want to hear is the dreaded sound of metal rubbing up against a wall. Any thoughts appreciated! |

Either way, I thought it was a reasonably priced package, which is why I added it. I'm glad I got it. |

You don't mention a state or country in your profile.
If you get winter, you might want to consider it just for the heated steering wheel. I opted for it, you can read my and other opinions in the following forum discussion. It's your car/money, so you can take some of the 'purist' comments with a grain of salt. http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1339783 |

I am surely not getting the Executive Package. I do not need annoying parking distance control sensors (that do not have an off button!). Also I do not need any pedestrian warning indication, BMW connect B.S., etc. All these are nuisances in a car that is meant to be a pure drivers which this car is marketed towards.
Only thing I want is the back up camera and I can live without if needed. No Executive Package for me.

With or without that one package, the beauty of it is the options are few and that keeps the price down. Otherwise you could go in an option it up to 90 grand, kind of like a P car. "Oh, you wanted seats? That's extra."
I am ambivalent to the lane departure and pedestrian warning but it would be nice to be able to access the video feed from the built in camera it uses to record to an external recorder. But the rear parking sensors are a nice feature. The first time you bump into something without them, you will wish you had them. Mike

I bought the parking button off-switch console thingy and was prepared for that to be a day 1 or 2 mod but haven't had the slightest urge to do this and might end up selling the console piece. |

At first no, but then eventually added it to my order because my current parking spot is kind of tight. Back up camera alone is worth the potential savings of roughing up the car during parking.
It saved me a few times in my previous car. |

Depends how you will feel if you ever run a little kid over while backing up. That aside, the heated steering wheel rocks.

I have some disc issues with my neck and back that make it hard to really crank my head and torso around to the right to look over my shoulder when backing up. i can do it but it's uncomfortable. For me, the back up camera is awesome in helping me limit the time I spend looking back over my shoulder.
I have yet to get in the car and NOT use the heated wheel. Granted I picked it up in December so i'm sure I'll stop using it in the next month or two, but oh man, is it ever nice. Overall I'm really happy I bought the package. |

1- I havent seen a kid outside since the advent of the iPhone. 2- I was under the impression the M2 exhaust is so good they would have to hear it "on" and get out of the way 3- I thought this was the baby M, hence small enough to have good vision 4- As long as the bike doesnt scratch the car... |

Funny - I watched one of the neighbor kids friends (maybe 3 years old?) sit behind a car the other day in the driveway. Well maybe not so funny. All I know is that kids, and yes, kids - run all over the place. They don't know what a backup light looks like and they don't know that the exhaust noise means the car is moving. Heck - have you ever been around a 3 year old? Either way, skipping on something that can save lives - especially young innocent ones seems like a smart use of $1,400 if you ask me - silly dimples in the bumper be dammed. And yes, you can come over and teach them how to ride a bike if you like.

I was on the fence for a while. In the end I went with the package because I wanted the backup camera. $1400 is not a terrible add on price for the other items bundled with it.

Are you getting a 2018? Backup camera will become standard in US.

Today, rearview video systems are optional equipment on many new cars, SUVs and trucks. By May 2018, NHTSA will require this life-saving technology on all new vehicles. http://www.kidsandcars.org/how-kids-get-hurt/backovers/ In the U.S. at least fifty children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week. The predominant age of victims is one year olds. (12-23 months). I've had the system alert me at least once so far when someone came out of nowhere and walked behind the car in a parking lot even though I back out slowly and constantly crane my head. Remember in the old days when we thought we could pump our brakes in winter just as well as ABS? Ever glad when the traction control kicked in and instantly right the car on ice, wet leaves, or sand? Looking forward to having a camera which, along with forward collision mitigation, is standard on the basic M2 in Aus.

On reflection and after reading all these posts, if I had to do it all over again, I would buy the Executive Package to get the back-up camera and park distance control. Oh well. Too late now. My 2017 arrives in less than a month.
